It is hoped that recognition of the Commended students in each year's Merit Program will serve as an encouragement en-couragement to able youth and will assist them in obtaining ob-taining whatever information and assistance they may need to pursue their educational plans. Counselor, Keith Larsen, announced todav that one senior student at Pleasant Grove High has achieved Commended student status in the twenty third annual National Merit Scholarship Program. This honor is the result of each students outstanding out-standing performance on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Ap-titude Test-National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test which was administered nationwide to high school juniors in October 1976. Letters Let-ters of Commendation were presented to Greg Yashko, son of Ruth and Paul Yashko. A total of approximately 35,000 Commended students throughout the United States are being honored by the national Medrit Scholarship Corporation which administers ad-ministers the yearly scholar-ship scholar-ship competition. Students in this group represent less than two percent of the total of graduating U.S. secondary school seniors. Although these students scored slightly below the level required for Merit Program participants who were named Semifinalists and who will continue in the competition for Merit Scholarships to be |
