Show Dist. 1 0 Riding Clubs Elect Officers for Year ,s';"'-' " "OTH9Wtf 'If J(IUU WW M , " ... r ft fcJV SSSk. ;iVKv5ij i i ' - ' -p 'few 1 cA Cl kj &A V ' cJM The District 10 Riding Club has organized for 1976 with Elman Anderson, president; Francis Cook, vice president; Vicky Draper, secretary; and Barbara Owen, publicity chairman. This group will direct activities of all riding clubs within the district during the coming year. Mrs. Owen reports that the U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates there are 5,867,869 horses that were vaccinated during recent years. "This figure could go much higher," Mrs. Owen says, noting that all horses did not receive the VEE vaccination. She noted that horse shows are becoming more popular and horse racing continues to be America's leading spectator sport. The horse industry is big business with thousands of dollars being spent in Utah alone each year on horses, tack trailers, feed and veterinarian fees. District 10 is a member of the Utah State Western Riding Club Association, and Mr. Anderson is also serving as president of this organization during 1976. The state is divided into two regions, one comprising com-prising the southern portion and the other, the northern portion of the state. Each region is then divided into districts. District 10 has nine clubs in it, including the Roughouts, Lehi Riding Club, Mt. Timp Riding Club, Utah County Sheriff's Posse, Sooners Riding Club, American Fork Riding Club, American Fork Bridlettes, Cedar Valley Riders and the Latigoes. Club officers and aims are as follows: Am. Fork Riding Club The American Fork Men's Riding Club is continuing to make improvements at the i American Fork arena. They are resurfacing the race track and arena and putting new facilities faci-lities in at the track. They have 30 stalls which r - rented by the club. They spoi. " a race meet during Steel Days each year and this year this event is planned for July 9 and 10. The meet will include a futurity and derby. Officers for 1976 include Gary Rackman, president; Brent Parduhn, vice president; Dale Hunter, secretary; Robert Gagon, treasurer; Dale Shum- way, historian; Glade Steiner and Paul Peters, directors. Am. Fork Bridlettes The Bridlettes were organized organ-ized in 1955. Members come from the surrounding area and as far away as Salt Lake City. They participate in parades, drills at rodeos and compete against the men's clubs in a district meet held in August. The Bridlettes are in charge of the equestrian entries in the Steel Days parade and appreciate appre-ciate the support they receive for this event. They also sponsor spon-sor a spring show for adult and youth. This will be held on June 5, a Saturday. Registration is at 11:30 a.m. Trophies and ribbons rib-bons are awarded to all winners. win-ners. Club officers are Lynn Ivory, president; DeAnn Harris, vice president; Barbara Owen, captain; cap-tain; Gay Murphy, co-captain; Nancy Park, secretary; Charlotte Char-lotte Atkins, entertainment ; Jeannie Spykes, treasurer. The Bridlettes invite all interested in-terested ladies 16 and over to ride with them on Thursday evenings at the American Fork arena. Members all own their own horses and equipment. The club membership is about 15. All families in the community are invited to support the play-day play-day sponsored by the club on June 5. This is exciting and wholesome entertainment for the whole family and no admission admis-sion is charged, club officers say. Cedar Valley Riders A family cookout, a playday, trail rides and a Christmas party par-ty are part of the Cedar Valley Rider's activities during the year. They also assist with the Cedar Fort Rodeo and annual July 24th celebration. They do not do an arena drill or participate partici-pate in parades, but they are active in the district, region and state competition. Officers include Francis Cook, president; presi-dent; Dean Smith, vice president; presi-dent; Nancy Smith, secretary; Gary Cook, captain; Mike But-terfield, But-terfield, co-captain; Donna Cook and Ilene Ashley, activity activi-ty chairmen. Roughouts The Roughout Riding Club is a very close knit group according accord-ing to the officers. They are a married couples club, with all members riding so that both the man and wife enjoy all the club's activities. They hold DISTRICT 10 DIRECTORS front, Vickie Draper, Lynn Ivory, Phyllis Hamilton, Diane Newman, Barbara Owen, back, Elman Anderson, Bob Devey, Harry Draper, Ray Hawkins, Haw-kins, Brent Parduhn, Gary Rackman, Clinto Gillman, Kent Runolfson, Absent, Francis Cook, Bob Kirkham and Jack Hammond. District 10 has very active clubs and district. monthly parties and moonlight rides, early breakfasts and dances. They own stock so that the ropers in the club can practice prac-tice for district and jack pot competition. They will hold a playday on May 29 at the Pleasant Plea-sant Grove arena. Clint Gill-man Gill-man is president; Kent Runolfson, Runolf-son, vice president; Dona Norman, Nor-man, secretary; Walt Norman, captain; and Stan Jorgenson, co-captain. Lehi Men's Riding Club The Lehi Men's Riding Club was the second club in the state to be organized. After their organization or-ganization in 194.3, they were instrumental in creating the state organization. They own a club house in Lehi which was built by them. They sponsor a Fat Stock Show for the FFA and 4-H members each year, sponsor a girl for the Miss Lehi contest, and send a boy to Boys - State. Their membership is about 20, although all members do not participate in riding competition. Bob Webb is president presi-dent and Eldon Clark, secretary. Ml. Timp Riding Club Mt. Timp is a men's club from the Lindon urea. The club includes about 19 members and they participate in family activities acti-vities such as camping and playdays. They sponsor junior riding clubs including one up to age 12, and one ages 12 to 15. They have their own arena and are self sustaining. They will hold a playday during the Lindon Lin-don Fair, July 31. Officers include" in-clude" Art Sisam, president; Cole Brackenberry, vice president; presi-dent; Bruce Adams, secretary and treasurer; and George Hardman, captain. Latigoes The Latigoes Riding Club is a women's riding club. They ride each Tuesday night at the Lindon Lin-don arena and would like to have any who are interested to come and ride with them. Diane Newman is president; Phyllis Hamilton, vice president; presi-dent; Lorraine Hunter, secretary; secre-tary; Jolene Walker, captain; Carol Goode, co-captain; and Lorraine Higgins, treasurer. Sooners Riding Club. The Sooner Riding Club was organized about four years ago and is comprised of couples only. They enjoy trail rides and family campouts. They also participate in arena events with other clubs and have had particular success with the Western dances they have sponsored. Bob Kirkham is president; Harry Draper, vice president; Sherie Lloyd, secretary, secre-tary, Randy Lloyd, steward; and Don Peterson, arena chairman. chair-man. Utah Co. Sheriff's Posse The Sheriff's Posse participates partici-pates in many search and rescue res-cue missions throughout Utah County. They also ride in parades par-ades and all district, region and state competition. They have been organized for approximately approxima-tely 23 years and hold weekly drills.
