Bert Takes Trophy Fish On Provo River Recently This 9!4 lb., 27 inch Brown trout was caught by J. Albert (Bert) Page, long time Pleasant Grove lawyer and former City Attorney a few days ago on the Provo river. When asked how and where he got it Bert said: "I was fishing with my nephew Don E. Page, who just recently moved to a new home in Lin-don. Lin-don. We were about a mile or so below Deer Creek dam fishing with flies. The hook he took was one I tied at home on a number 6 hook. The pattern was copied from one Mike Bezzant showed me and which he learned to tie in England while there on a . mission. I was using a six ! pound test leader so that '. when the hooked fish took off down stream I had to follow the best I could along the rocky shore line until I finally put on enough pressure to stop him. He then raced back up stream passed me and dogged it in the bottom of a deep hole for a while. When I got him to the top again and he saw me, down river again he went. But after some 15 or 20 minutes I succeeded in getting him into some slack water near the bank where Don placed his small flyfishing fly-fishing type net under him and scooped him onto the bank. He was way to large to go into the net." Bert said that he has fly fished Provo river for upwards upwar-ds of sixty years and this is the nicest and largest fish he has ever taken on a fly. He also thinks it just might be some sort of record for a fish taken from Provo river with a fly- |
