Show Pleasant Gire Jr. High Id if top $4 MilSi R. Walker, director of public relations for the district. Mr. Walker explained when new schools were planned at American Fork, Orem and Pleasant Grove, the latter school was at the top of the list, but three problems slowed construction. They were in site procurement, acceptance of plans by the State Building Board, and architectural delays. Slightly Smaller The basic plan of the three schools is the same, with fewer classrooms at the Pleasant Grove school. Orem and American Fork schools, presently under construction, are being built to accommodate 1,200 students, while Pleasant Grove is planned for 1,000. There is room for expansion at Pleasant Grove if necessary, Mr. Walker added. Since only one bid each was entered on both educational and shop equipment, these bids were not opened. They will be held for board decision. Apparent low bidder on stage and drapery, with a bid of $4,620, was Huish Bolts Inc. Fetzers Inc. was apparent low bidder for auditorium seating with a $22,874.29 bid. Utah Valley was apparent low bidder on carpeting with a bid of $49,995 for woven and $40,368 for tufted. Inflation Increased Cost Inflation has increased the cost of the junior high school by approximately 10 per cent in the last six months according to Dr. Dan W. Peterson, Alpine School District superintendent. The new school will make it possible to move the ninth grade back to the junior high level, and alleviate some of the strain at Pleasant Grove High School which is "perhaps the most crowded situation in the district right now" in the opinion of Jess By VERLAINE ALLEN AMERICAN FORK - Cannon Papanikolas, with a base bid of over $4 million, was the apparent low bidder for construction of a new Pleasant Grove Junior High School when bids were opened at noon Tuesday in the Alpine School District Administration office. The construction firm bid $4,075,000. The bid was accepted by the Board of Education with the stipulation that the number of days required to complete th eproject be lowered from 730 to 600. The board also indicated it would give careful consideration to the specifications and alternates. The bidding was very competitive, with only $9,000 difference between the lowest bids. Separate Bids Five items were bid separately in addition to the general contracting of the school building. These included stage and drapery, educational equipment, auditorium seating, shop equipment and kitchen equipment. The board moved to accept the low bid in each case provided they meet specifications. The final decision will not be made on some of the items until comparison studies of various alternates are made. |
