Open House Sunday to Honor 80th Birthday of Margaret S. Atwood An open house is planned in celebration of the 80th birthday of Margaret Smith Atwood of Pleasant Grove. Her family extends ex-tends an invitation to her many friends in the community to the open house, which will be held at the home of her son, Fred Atwood, 90 North 3rd East in Pleasant Grove, between the hours of 2 and 6 p.m. Sunday, Sun-day, Oct. 1, 1972. Margie Atwood was born on Oct. 4, 1892 in Pleasant Grove, the first child of Fred and Annie An-nie Christiansen Smith. She was married to Frank D. Atwood At-wood in the Salt Lake Temple on Feb. 14, 1917. Widowed in 1941, she raised seven children, child-ren, all of whom are living with the exception of a son, Dale, who was killed in action in Germany in 1944, She has seven sev-en grandchildren and two great grandchildren. t Mrs. Atwood, a life-long resident res-ident of Pleasant Grove, has been very active in church and community affairs. She has served ser-ved as president of the Third Ward Relief Society and held offices in the American Legion Leg-ion Auxiliary. After the death of her husband, hus-band, she was appointed Postmistress Post-mistress of Pleasant Grove and served in that capacity for seven sev-en years. For many years, she held the position of voter registrar reg-istrar and judge of elections in her district. At 80, though still an active worker in both the Salt Lake and Provo Temples, as well as a participant in many local church activities, Mrs. Atwood devotes much of her time to tending her garden and the maintenance of her home at 560 North 5th East in Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove. |
