Show THURSDAY, OCTOBER 14, 1971 PLEASANT GROVE REVIEW, PLEASANT GROVE, UTAH THURSDAY, OCTOBER 14, 1971 PTA Organization Helps Out Schools in Many Different Ways The PTA helps our schools with many worthwhile projects and give assistance where the school personnel feel help is needed. Some projects are done each and every year, while others are special projects. In a report to the Review, the following was given as the PTA projects which have been and are being worked on by the PTA in cooperation with the schools. Bolivia project: This project was completed last year at the London School with Glen Millar, teacher, and Mrs. Lorna Walk-er, PTA Project Chairman in charge. The students were enthusias-tic and earned money in var-ious ways to help make this possible. A day each week was set aside as Bolivia Day when the children would bring mon-ey and donate it to the building of a school in Bolivia. They raised $706.39 which paid for the school and furnished some supplies. The school is being named "Lindon of Bolivia." Eye Clinics: The school nurse and the PTA work together to check the student's eyes to de-termine where help is needed. Amblyopia Clinic: This is for pre-scho- children to check for possible Lazy Eye Disease. Immunization Clinics: Under the direction of the school nurse the PTA volunteer their help. Helping with special educa-tion groups: PTAs help the teachers where help is requir-- R.I.S.E. Reading Improve-ment Service Everywhere: Vol-unteers assist teachers to help remedial children once or twice a week to read better. The PTA made booklets from Readers Digest articles for sup-plementary reading The PTA helped with back to school nights, Halloween parties, graduation party, and May Day. They also served lunch to the school personnel on Parent's Visiting Day. The PTA presented a film to Alpine School District for moth-ers and daughters, on growing up. Scholarship Funds: A door to door canvas was conducted by the high school for the A. J. Rogers Scholarship Fund last year. When this fund reaches $10,000, a scholarship will be paid each year to a student or students, to the Brigham Young University. Films are presented in the schools to raise money for a State and Council Scholarship which is presented each year to a student at the high school. The State scholarship is renew-ed if the student makes appli-cation and maintains a 3.0 av-erage. PTSA was organized last year at the high school under the direction of PTA President Ha Adams. The by-law- s were changed to include the students for a better working relation-ship and to better benefit the students. These are but a few of the things PTA, with school per-sonnel, are giving their serv-ices each year to help make education and our children hap-pier and healthier. Other pro-grams are designed to help par-ents to better understand their children and their children's needs. ALL AMERICAN REALTY. Nation-al FFA Convention. The convention is one of the largest annual youth events in the nation. More than 12,000 FFA members and guests from 50 states and Puerto Rico are expected to attend. The Utah delegation will be led by Bill Sorenson, Gunnison, State FFA president, and Phil Petersen, Tremonton, State FFA SecTtary, who will serve as the state's official delegates. FFA members from Utah will receive the American Farmer Award, three members will play in the 133 piece band at the convention, and Rex Lar-se-n of Spanish Fork will com-pete in the public speaking con-test. Two Utah Chapters, Span-ish Fork and Springville, will send representatives to Kansas City to hear the results of their efforts in the National Chap-ter Award program. Alpine Musical Theatre to Present 'khabod' The Alpine Musical Theater, organized for the residents of Lehi, American Fork, Pleasant Grove and Alpine, under the leadership of Gene Larsen, mu-sical director, Glen Smith, stage director, and Bill Kirk-patric-set designer, announc-es the musical production "Ichabod" will be presented Oct. 27 and 28 in Lehi High School, October 29 in Ameri-can Fork High School, Oct. 30 in the Alpine Elementary School, and Nov. 4 and 6 in the Pleasant Grove High School. The musical "Ichabod" is a production that will appeal to children and adults. It is an ex-cellent family show with a talking horse that will delight the young people. The scene with the headless horseman is very much in keeping with Hal-loween. Tickets for the musical can be purchased at the door on the nights of the performance. Other productions are plan-ned in the near future to give residents in the four commun-ities an opportunity to use their talents. Banks Help to Sponsor NFL Football Games The Bank of Pleasant Grove and State Bank of Lehi, thru the full service banking organ-ization, will be helping to bring this season's NFL football gam-es. In addition the Foundation's television schedule will include full sponsorship of a new, ani-mated version of Charles Dick-ens' "A Christmas Carol" ov-er the ABC network in De-cember. Announcements during the games on both ABC and CBS demonstrate how full service banks aid their communities through both personal and bus-iness financial help, how they involve themselves in the soc-ial and economic development of our socity, and how they have responded to the prob-lems of their communities. The announcements will also be designed to convey specific facts about available banking services, that viewers may be unaware of. A complete NFL telecast schedule is available at either Bank of Pleasant Grove or the State Bank of Lehi.
