Commissioners will be here Thursday to ride in parade at 10 a.m. Pairadle Mexfi Thursday to p&i S&awberiry Pays Just one week away, plans are almost complete for the annual Strawberry Days celebration cele-bration in Pleasant Grove. Co-chairmen Co-chairmen Jim Hindley and Clive Beck are hoping this will be the biggest and best celebration cele-bration of its long and colorful color-ful reign as one of the first and best celebrations in the state of Utah. The events will be kicked off this year with a parade on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. Floats, bands, marching units, and all the things that make a parade exciting and fun to watch will be there, and the parade will go again at 6 p.m. for those who can't make the morning event. Thursday evening the first of three nights of RCA rodeo will start at 8 p.m. Nationally known cowboys will vie for a total of somewhere around $6,000 dollars, which will include in-clude some ?2,600 furnished by the committee, and the bal-themselves bal-themselves as entry fees. Colorful acts, bull fighting, demonstrations by riding clubs and the usual excitement of rodeo at its best will prevail. "Swanee" Kerby will be the producer and Don Harrington will announce the events. The Pleasant Grove Garden Club will stage their annual Flower Show in connection with the Strawberry Days celebration. celebra-tion. They anticipate an outstanding out-standing show. Flower Show All flower lovers in the community com-munity and surrounding communities com-munities are invited to have entries en-tries in the show. All entries should be in between the hours of 7 and 10 p.m. Thursday, June 17. The flower show will be open op-en to the public at 12 noon and will close at 9 p.m. The show will be held in the Pleasant Grove Jr. High gymnasium. Art Exhibit Joyce Pitts will be in charge of the art exhibit held this year along with the flower show and ceramic display. PI. Grove artists wishing to display two paintings are asked to bring them to the Jr. High Wednesday, Wednes-day, June 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. They will be on exhibit Thursday, Thurs-day, June 17 from 12 noon until un-til 9 p.m. Artists are asked to pick up their paintings Friday morning before 10 o'clock. Bake Sale Pleasant Grove Stake will also al-so sponsor a bake sale during the exhibits on Thursday. Proceeds Pro-ceeds from this sale will go to the stake building fund. The sale will be held in connection with the flower, art and ceramic cer-amic show at the Jr. High gym Teen Dance Wednesday evening, June 16, a teen dance featuring Pacific Professional Rock will be held in the parking lot west of Main Street. Dancing is free, sponsored spon-sored by Bank of Pleasant Grove and is under the direction direc-tion of the Jaycees. This is also al-so part of the Strawberry Days celebration. Youth Horse Show Friday's events will include a Youth Horse Show sponsored by the 4-H Horse Clubs of the area. The events will start at 10 a.m. and will include several sev-eral events for the youth of the area who ride and train horses. Trophies and ribbons will be awarded. Games for the Kids Friday afternoon, the usual games and events for the kids will be held on the Jr. High field east of the business district. dis-trict. Rodeo to Continue The rodeo will of course will be held Friday and Saturday evening also, and the annual Stock Parade, will start at 6 p.m. Saturday evening, featuring featur-ing riding clubs from throughout through-out the area and also horses of individuals who want to ride in the parade. City of Fun Carnival Operating all three days of the Strawberry Days will be the usual carnival and midway featuring Lou Melendez' "City of Fun" carnival. Mr. Melendez, Melen-dez, a Pleasant Grove resident has an outstanding carnival, and offers rides and games to please everyone. Booths will be open for all kinds of eats, and the always popular Strawberry Stand, featuring fea-turing Strawberries and Cream will be available. |
