ROBERT HALL Second place trophy Robert Hail Wins Second Place in Pinewood Derby In the 12th annual Scout-O-Ram- a, held at the Brigham Young University Fieldhouse last Saturday night, Robert Hall, Pack 23, Pleasant Grove was the second place winner in the Pinewood Derby event. Robert's racer was edged for first place by Craig Farrer of Pack 54, Provo, and coming in third was Todd Miglaccio, Pack 19, American Fork. Robert was the only scout to be listed in the winners circle this year from the Pleasant Grove area. ' ' i. SGT. BRUCE D. FRAZIER Best in Fifth Air Force Sgt. Bruce Frazier Commended for Service in Far East Sgt. Bruce D. Frazier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Frazier of Pleasant Grove, has recent-ly returned to the United States after spending 19 months in Okinawa and Korea with the U.S. Air Force. He has report- - ed to Hill Air Force Base, where he will be assigned to to the 4677 Ref. Sys. Evaluation Sqd. During his tour in the far east, Sgt. Frazier was given an award for being the Out-standing Maintenance Man in the Fifth Air Force for the period r, 1969. Other trophies he received are Outstanding Maintenance Man of his Squadron, Outstanding Maintenance Man of Wing. Sgt. Frazier's father, Don, is a recently retired Air Force man, and is the manager of the new 1 Store here in PI. Grove. They would like to thank anyone who helped in any way. Special thanks go to Wayne Allen, show announcer, Darlene Peterson and Judy Robinson, secretaries; Sue Hansen, arena secretary; Jim Green, show judge; Jeanne Adamson, Jay Richins, Stella Ashton, Bryce Rollings, Am Ivers and Don Hardman, timers; Ed Kresser and Donna Norman in charge of getting trophies; Lynn Ad-amson, Wilma Mann, in charge of awarding trophies; Rhonda Marshall in charge of the quilt and Donna Norman in charge of refreshments. Riding Club officers also thanked the public who came out and supported them. The quilt was won by Ken Lippold of American Fork. The show was under the dir-ection of the Club officers, with Stan Jorgensen, president. Funeral Services Held Wednesday For Lee T. Hooley Funeral services in memory of Lee T. Hooley were held Wednesday, May 13 at 11 a.m. in the Lindon Ward Chapel, under the direction of Bishop Lowell Gillman of the Lindon Second Ward. Mr. Hooley, 72, a life-lon- g resident of Lindon, died May 10, 1970. Speakers who told of the in-dustrious and helpful life of the deceased were Bishop Stan-ley B. Harris and Bishop Ken-neth H. Gillman. A life sketch was read by Bonnie Hooley. Bishop Lowell Gillman also gave fitting remarks. Jeanne Walker and Joanne Brady sang "That Silver Hair-ed Daddy of Mine," accompan-ied by LaDean Gillman, who also played the prelude and postlude. Lois Wright and Inez March-bank- s favored with a vocal du-et, "Look Up to Him," accom-panied by Donna Gillman. Family prayer was led by Arnold Hooley, invocation was asked by Bishop Joseph Bever-idg- e and benediction was offer-ed by Bishop Merrill Roberts. Pallbearers were Harold, Lon, Earl and Wilford Hooley, Howard Harper and Holly Max-fiel- d. Flowers were cared for and arranged by the Lindon Second Ward Relief Society. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery where the grave was dedicated by Bishop Milton Smith. Mr. Hooley was born Feb. 16 1898 in Lindon, a son of Alonzo and Sarah Park Hooley. On Aug. 6, 1919 he married Thelma .Jacobson in Provo. A retired farmer, he was a member of the LDS Church. Survivors include his wife, three sons, Richard L. Hooley, Lindon; Douglas A. Hooley, PI. Grove; Boyd J. Hooley, Tor-rance, Calif.; six daughters, Mrs. Rhea Rackman, and Mrs. Marvin (Tillie) King, both Am. Fork; Mrs. W. R. (Lois) Cum-ming- s, Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. Mrs. Harben (Melba) Salder, Torrance, Calif. ; Mrs. Robert (LeVoy) Whalley, Lakewood, Calif.; and Mrs. Stewart (Gay-ly- n) Beveridge, Bountiful; 23 grandchildren; two greatgrand-children; four brothers, Len-ar- d Hooley, Orem; Verlyn Hooley, Arnold Hooley, Roy Hooley, all of Lindon and two sisters, Mrs. Delbert (Melba) Carson, American Fork and Mrs. Arnold (Delilah) Clegg, of Provo. Timp Chapter of Utah Music Teachers Meet The Timpanogos Chapter of the Utah Music Teachers Asso-ciation held the annual Teach-ers play-i- n at their meeting on May 7. Every teacher who at-tended performed some favor-ite piano selection for the oth-er teachers. Mrs. Joana Major was hos-tess. Elections were held at the end of the program. Mrs. Lynn dePaula was elected as nt this year, and will be president next year. Other of-ficers will be Mrs. Robert (Car-la- ) Eliason as vice president; Mrs. Benny (Carol) Hullinger, secretary-treasure- r and Mrs. Jim (Christine) Deveraux as reporter. Mrs. James (Elaine) Had-fiel- d, past president, said she would like to invite any piano teachers not now members of this group to join with them. FFA Chapter Does Well at Recent Livestock Show The Pleasant Grove FFA Chapter was well represented by several of its members at the recent Spanish Fork Live-stock show. The Dairy Judging team took first place. Team members are Rick Maxfield, Ron Anderson and Russell Ad-ams. Ron Anderson also won first place in the Dairy fitting and showmanship. Randy Parker and Scott Par-ker, won champion Suffolk ram and ewe in the Jr. department, purebred sheep division. They also won a special award for the best pair of Suffolk ram and ewe. In the purebred Angus de-partment, Bruce Parker show-ed the reserve champion An-gus bull. Lynn Clegg showed the champion Angus heifer. Other members representing the chapter were: Glen Wright, Carl Penrod and Jon Bratt in the dairy division; Bruce Ack-erma- n, Gordon Turner and Bardell Faux. PI. Grove Native Son Called to Head LDS Mission Dr. Dewitt C. Smith, native son of Pleasant Grove, has been called by the First Presidency, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- -day Saints, to head a mis-sion for the church. Dr. Smith is currently president of the Milwaukee, Wis., Stake. Dr. Smith, who resides at 5791 Fern Court, Greendale, Wis., is manager of Electrode Research and Development, P. and H. Welding Products. He was born Feb. 29, 1904, a son of Melvin and Clara Tom-linso- n Smith. He married Fern Alice Jensen of Hyrum, Utah, in the Logan Temple, Aug. 20, 1932. They have three children. He received his B.A. and his Masters degrees from Utah State University and his Ph.D. from George Washington and Maryland University. Dr. Smith has three sisters living in Utah, Nevada and Cal-ifornia: Mrs. Vilate Rodeback, Provo; Mrs. Arnold (Melba) Richins, Pleasant Grove; Mrs. Rebba Worthen, Las Vegas and Mrs. Lott (Verona) Smith, Sev-en Oaks, California. Dr. Smith's assignment to his field of labor will be announced soon by the First Presidency. |
