Show Orem Tromps on Vikings 41 -7 Springville Here This Friday This week's schedule, all games slated for Friday, September Sep-tember 13, sends Orem to American Am-erican Fork, Lehi to Uintah, Payson to Provo, Spanish Fork to Carbon and Springville to Pleasant Grove. All are night games, except the Viking-Red Devil contest, which will begin at 3 p.m. Prices of admission are adults, $1.00, visiting students stu-dents with cards 50 cents. Since Springville and Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove each lost the opening open-ing games by sizeable scores, this contest Friday afternoon should be a spirited football game. It was a long and hot afternoon after-noon last Friday for the Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove Vikings. They traveled trav-eled to Orem and were clawed by the Tigers, 41-7. It was the first Region Four league football foot-ball game for both teams. It was just a matter of size, power and too much of both. From what was reported by the so-called "experts," it would seem that the Orem coach, Udell Westover, has another potential contender for Utah Class A laurels on the way up. Not that the Golden Cats didn't make mistakes. They were penalized many times during the first quarter. But even at that, the first half ended end-ed 21-0 in favor of Orem. The pride of Orem was Craig Crompton, 185-pound back, who scored three touchdowns, the final one being a gallop of some 53 yards. The Tigers other oth-er touchdowns were made by Dave Schofield, Gary Taylor, and Gaylon Buckley. Schofield kicked five of the six PAT's. Pleasant Grove's loan touchdown touch-down came within a minute of the final gun. Gary Huntsman went over on a quarterback sneak, after a 58-yard drive by the Viking crew. Rondo Biggs added the extra point via a place kick. In other Region Four league contests, played last Friday, American Fork and Lehi battled battl-ed to a 13-13 deadlock; Spanish Fork swamped Springville 25-6 25-6 and Provo whitewashed Uintah, Uin-tah, the new member of the league, 40-0. Payson and Carbon did not play, due to the long drawn-out drawn-out but now settled, teacher strike in Price. |
