Show PLEASANT 6R0VE REVIEW, PLEASAN'f GROVi UTAH THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 1968 THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 12 1968 Jr. League Football Jumps Off, More Games This Saturday Last Saturday marked the be-ginning of the football season for 1968 for the Junior League. It started when the Alpine Rams won a surprising victory over the previously undefeated Lehi Packers. The Rams, with quarterback Alldredge and halfbacks Bullock and Work-man, squeezed out a 7-- 0 win. In the second game of the day, the Lehi Giants, looking like the team to beat, took the measure of the A.F. Bears, 19-- The Giant defense was superb as they held the Bears to a minus 16 yards total of-fense in the first half, and only 20 yards total for the game The Bears didn't gain one first down in the ball game. The P.G. Eagles and the A.F. Browns banged heads. The Eagles started off fast with Roger Carson rambling 60 yds. for a touchdown. In the second quarter the Browns got their offense in gear and scored on a plunge after a long pass had set up the T.D. play. They scored the point ' after, and took the lead, 7-- In the second half the Eagles kicked off and the Browns fum-bled. The Eagles got the ball on the line and it look-ed like a sure T.D. However, they fumbled and the Browns picked up the ball and ran it to the Eagle 30. A pass play and two running plays, and the Browns had a 13-- 6 lead The Eagles looked good the rest of the game, but penalties kept them from scoring again. Final score was 13-- In the fourth and final game of the day the Lindon Steelers walked all over the A.F. Colts 12-- Penalties kept the Steel-ers from scoring three more times. Gordon Jorgensen made two terrific runs that were nul-lified because of penalties, and Tom Walker had a T.D. run called back. The Steelers kickoff to start the game forced the Colts to punt. On their first play, Tom Walker took the ball on a full-back draw play and splinted 50 yards, untouched, for a T.D. On the next kickoff the Colts fumbled and the Steelers re-covered. Gordon Jorgensen went around left end for the second T.D. and the game was just 3 minutes old. Penalties hurt the Steelers for the rest of the game, and in the third quarter they didn't even get their hands on the ball until just one minute remained in the quarter. The Steelers threatened to score five more times in the game, but each time a pen-alty halted their drive. The Steeler defense was good as time and again they stopped the Colt attack. The Steelers just might push the Giants and Browns for the champion-ship, and the Eagles could be a dark horse team that could win everything with a few breaks. Next Saturday the games will be at the A.F. City Base-ball Park just south of the arm-ory. Along with the games, the annual Barbecue dinner will and the first league games of the year. The schedule of games next is at 9 a.m. the Alpine Rams vs. the P.G. Eagles. At 11:30 a.m. the Lehi Packers will play the A.F. Bears. The final game will pit the Lindon Steelers against the A. F. Browns. Later Saturday night, 7:00 p.m. the Lehi and A.F. alumni teams square off in the first of the alumni games. Season tickets for these gam-es can be purchased from the ball players for $3.00. They entitle all family members to admission for the season. If you put the head of the house name on the paper the boy has with the tickets, all you need to get your children in the games is to give this name at the gate. Ml rtV il rl r,N.
