Show state engineer gives reasons for actions it has been considered advisable to publicize more fully the reason why the state engineers office has found it advisable to hold unapproved a number ol of applications proposing to divert water from the ground tor for irrl irrigation purposes within the drainage aiea abea of the upper part of the sevier river including its tributaries tributa ries before january 1946 this office ot had been approving the tee applications as they were tiled filed and advertised and no protests had been recorded since january 1946 a large number of applications have been tiled filed proposing to appropriate considerable quantities of 0 water from the ground tor for irrigation purposes the sevier devler river water users association became concerned and concluded that it if developments were allowed on the basis they were being proposed serious interference would develop thus decreasing the amount of water returning to the river channel the morse decree on the sevier devler river decrees all the water within the drainage area the lower water users depend entirely upon the return flow to the river through the ground tor for their decreed water rights in view of these protests tiled filed by sevier river water users association it was waa considered advisable to discontinue the approval of additional applications proposing to divert water rater from the ground tor for irrigation purposes until Iti information formation had been obtained regarding the ground water waier of 0 certain areas along the sevier river the united states geological survey in connection with the state engineers office has commenced to conduct the necessary investigation it the results of investigations determine that there la Is a reasonable probability of ground water being available irk in any area applications will be approved as aa contemplated by see sec 3 au 0 A 1948 1943 |
