Show Freight Conductor Made Coach at Naval Academy Granted a six-months' leave of absence, ab-sence, Freight Conductor E. F. "Kid" Mohler of the Los Angeles division of the Southern, Pacific railroad, has gone east again to coach the United States Naval academy baseball team for the second year. Before becoming a railroad man, Mohler was a star In the Pacific Coast league, performing perform-ing with the Oakland champions of 1902 and later as playing manager of the San Francisco Seals.' Old fans remember him as the pivot man of Oakland's fumed double-pley combination combina-tion of Franks-to-.Mohler-to-Streib. Mohler's seniority with the Southern South-ern Pacific dates from 1920, but prior to that he worked for the railroad Intermittently from the time of bis retirement re-tirement from baseball in 1912. His friends say he railroads like he used to play baseball with everything be has. |
