Show legion to handle aluminum collection the parowan carowan post no 20 of the american legion has been given tho the responsibility for collecting scrap aluminum under the nation al defense scrap aluminum campaign for parowan carowan and paragonah Parag Para gonah the campaign will be made during the week of july 21 to 29 inclusive clu sive with a supreme effort being made by the committee in charge to have the collection completed by the first evening of the drive according to A B matheson Mathe soi legion commander who is directing the local drive the general nature of the campaign is that each housewife business institution industrial plant plan and public or private institution is requested to contribute all used aluminum ware or aluminum parts that can be spared without making makin 1 replacements it is suggested that the scrap aluminum lunnin um after collection should be stored in one central place during durin the period of the campaign I 1 under volunteer guard this is to be in some central place where public interest anvill be stimulated the place selected for the collection colle clion and storage here is the basor basement nent ct cf the public library all effort in connection with th drive is on a volunteer basis and no one is to receive profit or pay from the donation collection or storage of the aluminum all persons are urged against giving more than they can actu ly spare this is to avoid a shortage of other metals heavy or bulky articles which contain only a small part of aluminum should be donated but the aluminum parts should be stripped and collected separately thy local committee chairman will be responsible for carrying our of federal regulations covering the disposition of the aluminum after it has been deposited in the central collection bins their first responsibility is to provide ample police protection test experiments have proved that the aluminum must be guarded day and night to avoid pilfering th scrap is valuable and is relatively easy to dispose of all waste dealers should report to local commit commit ties and police any suspicious sales of scrap aluminum once the campaign has begun next the local chairman is is responsible for keeping record of the gross weight of the collected aluminum before it is sorted the chairman is next responsible for offering the aluminum to any smelter having defense preference ratings and arrange ing a direct sale of the aluminum by the committee to the smelter the smelter will then contact a waste dealer and have him arrange with the local committee for the custody of the scrap local committees will arrange transportation at the request of the dealer the idealer dealer then prepares the scrap for the smelter in accordance with national association of waste deal er specifications after the aluminum is del delivered iverel to the smelters shelters sm elters they will settle by check payable to the natio national 1 scrap aluminum fund the voucher will show the a mount of aluminum received the rate at which is was paid for the value of rejections at the smelting smelling sm elting plant the value of rejections at th the c dealers yard the total amount paid the the dealer for costs and the total amount remitted by the smelter to he fund when the voucher is received by the local committee chairman the information will be published in the local newspaper |
