| Show suggestions MADE FOR CHRISTMAS MAILING some pertinent s suggestions for christmas mailing with sn an appear for cooperation from post office patrons are made by our local postmaster in inan an article given us for publication this week weck as follows shop early and mail early is again a timely suggestion you get better selections it if you shop early and your parcels get better treatment if mailed early wrap and tie carefully your parcels for mailing dont seal them against postal inspection and dont enclose writing with them it if you dont want to pay first class postage ac an ounce on them address them plainly and put your return address in the upper left hand corner pack securely if they are fragile or breakable perishable articles should be so designated and should bo be mailed before in the morning to insure their going out on the morning mail and to avoid their being held over night in the warm post office with danger of spoiling well be on hand early each morning from now until christmas to take care of such articles but packages which are not perishable including greeting cards and all first class mail should be mailed during t the h e day since there may not be tame in the mornings to weigh and insure other than perishable parcels and incidentally it is particularly advisable to insure valuable parcels and register important first class mail at this season of congested mails all over the country preserve dign ty of greetings in sending out your greeting cards remember that you can seal them for local delivery in hi town with one cent postage whether they have writing in them or not for out of town mailing they must bear three cents postage if they are sealed scaled or if they contain any sort of written message other than a mere greeting such as merry christmas seasons greetings or 0 r similar wording and the name of the sender they may be mailed in unsealed envelopes either in or out of town for lc provided they have no writing other than as above mentioned but mailed for 11 csc e they become third class rathor rather than first class mail and are entitled to only third class handling they cannot be forwarded or returned in case of non delivery as addressed the post office department suggests that you preserve the dignity of your greetings by sending them first class that is in sealed envelopes with first class postage and if you wish tu to be sure whether your friends receive them place your return address on the outside of the envelope then they will come back to you if not delivered anticipate your requirements for postage and then buy your stamps in advance it will be a help to the post office department and it may insure your greetings leaving this office a day sooner in case of late mailings special delivery stamps will help or air mail special delivery if your greetings are going to distant points there will be no delivery of parcels on christmas day except special delivery your postmaster will be glad to answer any questions you have regarding the mails which are not made clear in this article |
