Show 1 appointments made at special council meeting A special meeting of the city council was held tuesday evening for the he purpose of selecting men to fill the appointive off offices icess in paro wan cl city y for the next two years these appointments appointment Si were made without any friction by secret ballot of the councilmen with very few changes made in the personnel of city employees or the duties assigned to each the only major change in the list of employees was made when the council chose M L as superintendent of the city water I 1 system in place of D A matheson who has held that position for the past two years mr had held this job for several years prior to 1938 A change in duties was made when the new mayor and council abolished the office of city superintendent of works and purchasing agent which has been held by harrell dilton dalton in connection with his marshals job for the past two years under the new council mr dalton was named as city marshal with the added duties of taking care of delinquent light and water users list and his salary was reduced 1500 a month to other appointments made are as follows R L halterman as superintendent of the cites hydroelectric hydro electric plant ross guymon as lineman and superintendent of the electrical a distribution system winston orton as power plant operator and reader of light and water meters halterman and guymon gu mon are also 0 o serve as plant operators dr frank J burton as city health officer durham morris as city attorney samuel J whitney as sexton and caretaker of city office and public library and grounds in connection with his recorders duties R M benson as collector of light and water rentals in connection with his duties as city treasurer some other minor readjustments were made in various officers duties and some others may be made in the near future if it is found they are needed several other items of business were transacted at the meeting as fellows M mr r marvin engineer met with the council concerning the iopa project at the city cemetery and informed the council members of the probable cert of a solid rock wall around that place after some come discussion it was decided to go ahead with the solid wall made of rock and arrangements are being made to get some of the highly colored rock down near the narrows of the gap for this purpose this rock has been filed on by the lawrence brothers benjamin and wilford of summit and the city is endeavoring to get it from them councilman ray H adams was appointed to ook book after the cites interests on thi th project at the cemetery whether this project will finish all the work that is contemplated there under the changed plans known as yet but the engineer assured the city that it would be possible to get another to supplement it if and when it is found that the work cant be completed under the present one 1 the council made an appropriation of to help pay its share of the rental re cital rital on the county caterpillar used in putting the new stream into the yankee reservoir last fall and also appropriated 1000 to the daughters of the pioneers to be used by them to help defray the cost of Pa rowans birthday celebration which is being held tomorrow |
