Show 3 M MAYOR JOSEPH MAKES 1 S COMMITTEE appointments t at the first regular meeting of belthe new city council for 1910 1940 held i tuesday evening mayor arthur joseph named the standing com hutters hut tees for the ensuing two years idith each councilman acting as a li chairman of one and a member ot ol t two other committees the com and the personnel of each are as follows tt T hydroelectric hydro electric ray IL II adams N chairman taylor miller and S it A halterman waterworks Water works L J A adams chairman walter C mitch all edcil and taylor miller cemetery vt vi S A halterman chairman ray H adams and L J adams streets P fend nd sidewalks walter C mitchell sf chairman S A halterman and otray H adams auditing taylor awmiller miller chairman L J adams and walter C mitchell 4 i in regard to the care and use of atthe recently acquired fire fighting equipment a committee const consisting stin g of ray H and L J adams was named to draw up an agreement with the new operators of the par le ibaan to n auto company for them to take k e care of this equipment and keep it in good operating order athe committee was also authorized to plan and organize a volunteer fire department of citizens living jn a close radius to the place where acre the equipment is to be stored ored and have the department c imade trial runs to acquaint themselves with said equipment the kind of a fence to be used in enclosing the parowan carowan cemetery and its new additions was brought hip for discussion with a majority diff af pf the council expressing them delves as being in favor of a solid rock wall around those grounds mayor joseph reported that he awauld visit the office at ce abdar city the next day and that immediately after he felt that the entire council should visit the project eject with him these plans were carried out land rid as a result it was decided that about B solid wall made of native rock about 42 inches high and 14 inches thick would be constructed around the cemetery grounds including the ground to the south and west of jf the present fence almost to the canyon road the big hole between k the road and present fence will also be filled and leveled anc and leveral thousand feet of PP 6 line laid for the benefit of lot lowness low ners A I 1 the council decided to encourage the citizens of the community to use the city hearse as an ambulance in emergency runs to the hospital by keeping it in readiness for use at all times with an experienced driver available the price for its use was set at a mile for residents of the city and a mile for others sexton S J whitney was instructed to have ill the hearse repainted to improve its appearance city treasurer R al benson was authorized to have a tele phone installed in the city office right away A decision was also made to heat that office from the parowan carowan mercantile furnace during the extremely cold weather after much discussion it was decided that the city should ask the fields for an accounting of money spent at the yankee reservoir during the past several years to ascertain if possible just how the cost has been distributed between the city and fields the mayor and all members of j the council felt that there was no hurry in naming the men to fill the appointive city offices at the meeting and the list of applications for the various jobs on file at the meeting was read to the council by the mayor with the request that they study the list another meeting will be held next tuesday to consider the applications before the appointments are made the list of applicants tor for the various jobs are as follows hy dro electric employees and P plant lant operators ross guymon R L halterman thomas davenport winston orton and J A hyatt sexton and janitor anthony paxton marshal harrell dalton supervisor per rs visor 0 r of water system D A stathes matheson on E I 1 lowe M L and thomas lemmon |
