Show DR JENKINS RETURNS FROM OAKLAND convention dr A A jenkins deputy state health officer for district no IT II utah slate board of health re bently returned from the american public health association western branch convention a at t oakland where he discussed a paper on plans for A demonstration service in maternal matern a I 1 and natal care in a selected area in utah before a group of maternal and child health workers his paper dealt with public health services for maternity cases and new born infants and services to bo be inaugurated in a demonstration on area in utah he pointed out that a public health nursing delivery service is available to expectant mothers others in in county providing their physician requests quests le this service and refers the patient to the nurse for prenatal pre natal supervision at least three months before the expected date of delivery it was mentioned that every effort possible is being made to encourage expectant mothers to consult their physician early in the course of pregnancy in the interest of assuring them so far as i possible a safe and normal delav ery the demonstration area gar 1 field and piute diute counties has been selected for this service because it presents problems which are representative of the state as a whole and at the same time has special problems and needs for the service the purpose of the demonstration service is to show how these problems can best be met to demonstrate its effectiveness in reducing morbidity and mortality mor and to determine the best methods of carrying out the service dr jenkins reports a good attendance ten clance at the convention where here all phases of public health 7 were discussed he says that today the public health program is reaching nto into all isolated rural areas and people are becoming conscious of the he wisdom of preventing disease before sickness occurs |
