Show ELDER BART BAET MITCHELL ENJOYING missionary WORK A personal letter from elder dart bart mitchell former resident of 0 paro wan who recently went from salt lake city on a mission to the north ern states colitt contains allis much that we believe will ibe be of 0 interest to times readers we are therefore publishing it herewith office of northern states mission 2555 N sawyer avenue chicago ni hear cousin bc foro I 1 started Tec receiving elving the times I 1 had intended dropping you a line to let you know what im doing and how imi im getting along and now that you are sending me the paper gratuitously the leant I 1 can do is to write and express my appreciation ive been in the mission field almost seven months now and have lave enjoyed immensely every hour and every day of that time there seems to be a certain joy attached to this typo type of work that cant be found elsewhere I 1 think it must be entirely within ones self as to whether this work is enjoyable or not tor for ive noticed that missionaries who humble themselves study and preach sincerely and give a good honest days work seem contented and happy while on the other hand those who just slide through and get oft off with as little work as possible are continually anticipating their release it seems too that life is very much this way when we put into it everything we have we are bound to receive the best practically all my time til itil the present has been spent in the northern part of indiana particularly in and around fort wayne and south bend we have some very fini fine members in this part of 0 the country most of them work diligently in the branches and some drive long distances to attend church this has surely strengthened me immensely to see these people who meet with ln in on every hand and are called on to defend their faith so often among the people they mingle with in their work and social life remain faithful and further than that bear those testimonies they have to their associates and even go out among them as aa local missionaries there are tour four organized branches in northern indiana at south bend fort wayne mancle arid and peru and they are all officered by local mern members bers incidentally I 1 had the privilege recently of helping to effect the organization of the south bend branch one ot of our own southern utah men is superintendent of the sunday school and his wife is president of the relief society possibly you will know of him his big name is alton D fordham Ford liam from st george while in south bend I 1 had the opportunity of laboring with a grandson ot of brother john stevens his father moved to wyoming from parowan carowan when yet a young man and this young man clair stevens seems to have the attributes of that very tine fine stock just a week ago I 1 was transferred to this office mission headquarters a r in chicago and so far have enjoyed the work and surroundings very much I 1 done any sightseeing sight seeing in the city as aa yet but have attended sunday school in the beautiful and elaborate edgewater beach hotel where our north shore ward holds forth there are three fair sized wards la in the recently or chicago stake in chicago alone and of 0 course the stal stale e takes in much of the surrounding territory I 1 shall be looking forward to hearing from you please give my regards to the family sincerely bart |
