Show collector of city rentals quits successor named at t a special meeting of the city council on wednesday night of 0 t this h I 1 abek k S J whitney tendered his resignation as collector ot of light and water rentals to take effect as soon as a successor could be named the council accepted the resignation with an all expression of appreciation tor for his services and during the meeting mayor adams appointed richard 41 benson city recorder to do the collecting though members OL of the council with previous knowl jeda edg that the resignation was coming had considered another for or the appointment deterred deferred to tho the Afa mayors wishes and approved the appoint ment dent the chief purpose ot of the meeting was to hear from persons who are three years behind with their special ial taxes and whose property will therefore be deeded to the city before the end ot of the month unless redempa eions are made several persons appeared and the council explained that unless taxes which are in arrears tor for three years are paid the city has no alternative but to take deeds far for the property in which event it would be subject to sale to other persons at any time the matter ot of adding more water to the system to meet the demands during the summer season was discussed but no definite action was taken pending a report on an analysis of a spring on the north side of the canyon at the five mile the water on the south side ot of the canyon at that point was formerly in the system and it Is known to be good but to put it back into the system now will require about feet of pipe whereas the spring on the north side can be put in with about twenty or thirty feet it if it proves to be good goad tile the latter spring will be used otherwise the greater expenditure will likely be made to get the south side spring at the marshals request the recorder was instructed to order a police club for that officer the difficulty which is being experienced perien ced at this season in du getting water through town by y way of the field ditches to accommodate persons who use those ditches to water their stock was called to the councils attention by the marshal who stated that there is ds considerable complaint but that to put more water into those ditches means to flood the streets the council advised that the city is in no condition to expend money for opening kip kil the channels and tor for the marshal to do the best he can and dis disregard complaints pla ints |
