| Show missionary LEITER winnipeg abc winnipeg manitoba canada editor I 1 I 1 received a letter from my mother I 1 the other day telling me you had taken my mv address and w was s intending to send me the times and th the first copy py came to me on last nights co nail mail that thatis is the first copy direct from the office the folks have sent me some of the recent issues but not all of them they are just like letters from home and whenever one comes if I 1 have time I 1 sit down and literally devour the co intents from one sheet to the other the tax notices ads notices lost and found ads and in fact every word that pertains to the people of iron county and I 1 usually try to get all the jokes believe me we have some time here at the office once every week or two we have four cheap town Paper sas they call them out here come to the office so you see we get an dea what goes on in all parts of utah as well as the southern part of alberta canada as our conference president takes the raymond rag it has another name but I 1 can not recall it just now nov and of course each fel fellow belloi loi has to stick up for his home town and its paper and some tirres times that causes a little discussion but putting all jokes aside you will vill agree with me that the parowan carowan times has them all beat I 1 guess it will not be out of the way to describe our city here as it has some good points of course what khat interests us most is the religious features of it that we know more about as it is what we are studying most if not all the time I 1 have heard it stated several times that there are seven hundred different churches or denominations 0 on the north american continent alone and I 1 believe that each of them has a representative ie here in winnipeg it is sure a religious babylon and of course they are all right but thank the lord we chow know dif different one of the most difficult things for a stranger here is to find his way around the nearest I 1 can describe the main street is to liken it unto that new cattle trail which was blazed through dark hollow two or three years ago and some of the other alleys are worse than trying to get up Wix oms twist back of the roller mill at home only the they y are not steep and rough althere as there is not a mound in all manitoba that can compare with the gravel trap above town one of the other elders and myself were on top of the highest building here in winnipeg just the other day and as far as the eye could reach not a sign of a raise could we see just one continuous level plain winnipeg has a few fine buildings but not many and there are so many shacks among them that i it detracts from the beauty of the nice ones and as for the streets the guy that laid them out must have had a jitney without any st ste arins earing wheel plenty of gas and five gallons of home spun with no speed limit as he certa certainly iril made a mess of it the city has a popi population lation of about three hundred thousand and they have come from every nation on the globe each group has brought their awil own 1 customs with them 1 ut we all get along very well together the people of canada as a whole are very open minded and broad and they treat us very welt well but we meet our opposition from the people that come over from the old country and they sometimes like eke to heckle us on thea th street estreet andrell and tell some thread bire bare story they heard beard in england some forty or fifty ago while I 1 was w I 1 ilk out tr acting today I 1 met two negro preachers and they done tole me just what you have to do to be saved mintah I 1 had a round with them for about an 1 hour but get any where with them I 1 was vell ell entertained however I 1 shall have to bring this letter to a close now but I 1 surely appreciate your sending me the paper and I 1 look forward to its coming each week with a great deal of pleasure I 1 trust that you will receive the sup poi t of tb the e good people of parowan carowan and that the lord will bless and prosper you in your new occupation remember me to au all the people and tell mem I 1 am well and enjoying my work your brother in the gospel elder K R MATHESON |
