I School Closes J The completion of thirty years of teaching over a span of oC three forty-three years is the remarkable remarkable remarkable re re- record achieved this year by Mrs Cora Barnett She began her teaching career career career ca ca- reer at Stoker School in the fall of 1927 after graduating from the University of Utah with a two year ear normal teaching certificate THE TIlE FIRST year she was wasa a teachers teacher's aid to Mrs Sinclair Sinclair Sinclair Sin Sin- clair in the first grade She then taught fifth grade for Cor two taro years before she married T. T Arnold Barnett in October 1930 They have a son Jack and four grandchildren who live in Boise Ida where Jack is a consulting engineer Mrs Barnett is the daughter of Judson A. A and Ruby P. P Mabey After attending her first years of school in Idaho she started as a student in inthe inthe inthe the fifth grade at Stoker School She graduated from High School and Junior College before attending attending attending attend attend- ing the University of Utah IN 1943 after her son had started school she returned to Stoker School as fourth grade teacher and is now finishing the twenty-seventh twenty consecutive year of teaching fourth graders in the same S E corner main floor classroom When asked if she didn't tire of the same room she said Oh no it never was the same as each year the students made it a different picture Her classes have ranged from w s sp r p r aiL k ka kro a ro y R i CORA M. M BARNETT 44 pupils to the present 23 and have totaled to over 1000 stu stu- stu- stu dents WITH LONG hours of correspondence correspondence correspondence corre corre- and extension classes class class- es she completed two more years of university requirements requirements requirements require require- ments receiving her BS degree degree degree de de- de- de gree in 1958 the year before her son graduated She now has 25 hours of credit beyond her degree She is a charter member of Delta Kappa Gam Gam- ma She is an active member othe o o. the Church and has serves serve as teacher in most of its or She has been z help to her husband in h his many years of scouting as aswell aswell aswell well as a great comfort to him himin himin himin in his recent illness DURING the summer she enjoys returning for a visit to the cabin up the canyon from her parents ranch in Idaho where she lived for three summers summers summers sum sum- mers before she was marries mamea while homesteading a section of land The Stoker School PT PTA A has planned a special program in her honor Thursday May 14 1970 at 8 pm p.m. at the school A special invitation is extended to all fellow workers students of today and of years gone by to parents and to all who know and appreciate the loyalty and dedication of this outstanding teacher |
