C Haight TIllS marKer was made maae oy John and Judy Knight of Bountiful and given to the present owners Clair andElla and andElla andElla Ella Rose De Long The two couples had lived in New England together and knew the tradition of marking buildings buildings buildings build build- ings older than years ears thus making local folks more aware of the history surrounding surrounding surrounding sur sur- rounding them OUR PIONEERS made this town a place of joy to dwell in and a mirror of their efforts efforts efforts ef ef- forts and monuments to their work are the 87 old pioneer homes still standing and being used If each of these old homes had markers new residents tourists or young people would not have to rely on someone else or on happenstance to know more about the original settlement HECTOR C. C Haight builder of the old home constructed it as the Hotel or Carriage Stop He was Farmington's original pioneer In the late fall of 1847 he with his wife and two sons came into the nearby area and spent the winter in a dugout With the coming of spring five other families joined the Haight group and they all settled here in Farmington THEY BUILT better than th they v knew We can honor these pioneers by caring for the structures they built and marking them so that others might know and enjoy the history of this community com com- kj |
