| Show Clipper er Editorial No To The Vigilantes People who watch people have wondered for Cor some sometime sometime sometime time just how Americans would react to stress and emergency such as Europeans faced during world war II We are beginning to find out SOME PANIC it appears A case in point is the present flood of oC rumors on the neighborhood emergency teams If some of the rumors are arc near correct many residents are upset and joining the groups BUT THESE nIESE GROUPS pose many problems and dangers always so when citizens try to circumvent the police andI and I take matters into their own hands In fact results could i be just what the groups are supposedly trying to stop riot and mob rule Just imagine what would happen if every block in I south Davis County were sealed off by residents of the blocks Can you imagine the suspicion fright and blood bloodshed bloodshed bloodshed shed that could follow Collow Can you see residents at some Bountiful intersection who may have had some words over the years shooting at each other now that they have become the law I VIGILANTES ARE NOT the answer just as they were not in the past True they may have been necessary at times in the Old West when there was no law and order I But we have law and order today If more persons are needed to insure safety of l life e and property then they should be picked and directed by local police This way the right hand would know what the left hand was doing IT IS FRIGHTENING to see some who consider themselves themselves them them- selves sportsmen heading for the hills with high powered rifles to hunt deer Many ducks sheep pigs outhouses tractors yes and people prove many of them cant can't tell what a deer looks like Now imagine these persons and others perhaps less well disciplined telling you you cant can't drive down Bountiful's Main Street He points a aI J 1 at your stomach to enforce his decree I The only way modern modem man can exist is to support z I proper law enforcement and the officials who are responsible responsible responsible re re- re- re for carrying it out THERE ARE THINGS individuals can do both in support support support sup sup- port of police and in their own homes Some of these willbe will willbe willbe be explained in a meeting Monday evening at in the Bountiful City Hall downstairs Bountiful Police Chief Dean 0 O.
