Show Obituaries Helen M. Goo f t Former Park City resident Helen M. Goo died in Salt Lake City Nov. 20. She was 70. y " She was born Sept. 10, 1913, in Lawrence, Mass., to Hiram C. and Eva McKenzie Pickering. She married Jim Goo Feb. 10, 1946. He died in August 1978. She was a resident of San Diego, Calif., until shortly before her death. "It seems such a short time since Jim, Helen and all the family were living here in Park City, the place they called home for several years," recalled unofficial Park City historian Bea Kummer. "It was the second time (as a Park City resident) for Jim, as he came (here) from Hong Kong as a lad and worked for (Chinese entrepreneur) Joe Grover until World War II, when he went into the service. "He met and married Helen and they were owners and operators of their own restaurant (in another city) for many years. Then Jim gave up his own business and came back to Park City to become chef at the C'est Bon Hotel (now the Sweetwater condominiums on Empire Avenue near the Park City Ski Area) until he again went into his own place at the bottom of Main Street, called Jimmy's," said Kummer. After the death of their son, Vance, the Goos left Park City to take over management of the Jim Bridger Cafe in Bridger, Wyo., said Kummer. She is survived by sons, J.R. Goo and Kim Goo (both of Salt Lake City); daughters, Judy R. Goo (Japan) and Jane Register (North Carolina );j l23J . grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. H '' She was buried in the Park City Cemetery Nov. 23. Allan Mair Iicva Allan Mair died Nov. 15 in Park City. He was 62. - ol He was born Aug. 16, 1923, in Heber City to George A. and Annie Barnes' Mair. He married Mary Uriarte Dec. 24, 1942, in Coalville. : " ': He moved to Park City during the late '40s, recalled his brother-in-law Leon Uriarte, and he worked in the loca) mines. After the mines closed, he worked 1 briefly as a custodian at the Park City Ski Area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife, of Park City; daughters, Mrs. James (Juanita) . Woolman and Mrs. Leon (Connie Lynn) Welch, both of Sandy; sister, Mrs. Al (Janet) Evans, Heber City; brothers, Willis Mair, Center Creek, and Bill Mair, Midway; four grandchildren and and one great-grandchild. Services were held Nov. 19 at Olpin Mortuary, Heber City. Burial was in Park City Cemetery. ;f.l' |
