Show Nordic race to benefit Helpline Helpline, a community service listening line headquartered at the University of Utah, is sponsoring spon-soring a charity cross country coun-try ski race on President's Day, Feb. 20 at the White Pine Touring Center in Park City. Registration begins at noon. The registration fee of $6 includes a T-shirt. Races begin at 1 p.m. and will continue con-tinue throughout the afternoon. after-noon. The event is being co-sponsored co-sponsored by White Pine Touring Center, Hotel Utah, Kinko's Copies, Erickson Pharmacy and a variety of other local businesses. Proceeds will help pay for phone bills, for training of volunteers and for developing a referral system for directing callers to the right community and mental health agencies. Skiers will race around a 5-kilometer 5-kilometer circular course. There will be a variety of age and experience categories and a handicapping system that will enable almost everyone to have a chance to win. Prizes are being donated by merchants. Helpline consists of volunteers volun-teers who listen to people who are depressed, lonely or need an objective person to help them sort out their problems. Between September Septem-ber and December, 1983, about 40 Helpliners answered an-swered more than 500 calls. |
