But by this time next week the list will be down to no more than three. Among the games on the schedule for the coming week are three featuring undefeated un-defeated teams. In the women's league, Monday will witness an early-season showdown between the two remaining teams with flawless records, defending champion Just Arnie's (3-0) against Sneaker's (2-0). Meanwhile, in the men's league, last year's Woodhaus team, now known as the Glad-E-Aters (3-0) is scheduled to play the upstart Coconuts (2-0) Sunday while defending champion Doc's (3-0) will risk its unblemished un-blemished record against the Hat Store (3-0) on Wednesday, Wed-nesday, June 22. Here is a synopsis of last week's games: Men's softball Snow Pigs 19, Scrooges 13 In a wet one, Wednesday, the Snow Pigs commanded a 19-13 lead over Scrooge's when the game was called after five innings on account of rain. Hat Store 24, Stein's 8 Stein Eriksen's crew hasn't quite found all the handles yet, or else the Hat Store pulled something over their eyes Wednesday 24-8. Tricky pitching by the Hat Store's Greg "Cakes" Winn kept the blinders on Stein's for the first innings while the Store batted around in the second for a 10-1 lead. Finally in the third inning 1 Kurt Sanburn lifted the Stein's out of the doldrums by slapping a home run. But that rally wasn't enough to overcome the big sticks of Bob DiTullio and Geoff Nielsen who kept the Hats on top all the way. Coconuts 21, End Run 5 The Park Hotel Coconuts steamrolled the End Run 21-5 21-5 in Sunday softball with awesome slugging against a defense which simply rolled over. The End Run finally got up and ran for four in the sixth inning but it was only for pride because the game had long been over. Alamo 20, Janeaux's 14 The Alamo Bums turned the trick in the sixth inning, batting around for 10 runs while Janeaux's stood helplessly by. The Bums evened their season record at 1-1 while Janeaux's slipped slip-ped to 0-2. At the end of five innings Janeaux's held a slim 7-6 lead when the Bums cut loose with a balanced hitting attack; nothing bigger than a single was hit in that sixth inning onslaught. Janeaux's answered the Bums with two in the sixth and five in the seventh inning but Mitch of the Alamo slammed the doors on the kids from up Main Street with a seventh-inning seventh-inning homer. Prospector Square 11, Snow Pigs 7 The front of the order batted bat-ted Prospector Square to a Sunday victory over the Snow Pigs 11-7. The Square now goes to 2-1 for the season while the Pigs slip 0-2. The Square jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first inning on clutch hitting by Paul Eichenberger and Guy Johnson. The Pigs made a third inning comeback on the bats of Jeff Balaban and Butch Warren. But in their half of the fifth, the Squares' leadoff hitter, jerry Jaeger, smacked a homer followed by four straight base hits. A the end of five it was 10-2. The Pigs battled back with four runs in the sixth on a three bagger by Ray Mar-vig, Mar-vig, but it wasn't enough to overtake the determined Square. Glad-E-Aters 17, Park Meadows 8 Sixth-inning homers by Glad-E-Aters Tim Lee and Gordy Buynak cleaned up the Country Club crew Sunday Sun-day as the G-Aters gave Park Meadows its first taste of defeat, 17-8. After two innings the G-Ater's G-Ater's were holding at 5-4. In the fourth inning, they added three more on the bats of Robo Svoboda and Randy Hanskat. Then the men from Glad all but took it out to the curb with another three in the fourth on a four-base slap by Norm Smith. Hat Store 28, Scrooge's 6 The Hat Store showed off its muscle again on Sunday with a one-sided slugfest that sent the Scrooge's home wishing for Christmas past, 28-6. After four innings the score stood at four apiece. But in the fifth the mad Hatters Hat-ters kicked-in the after-burners with 12 runs on three homers by Kilgore, Mark Stewart and Jerry Johnson. The Scrooge's, who were left reeling in the exhaust, couldn't fight back as the merciless Hat Store buried them with another 12 runs in the sixth and seventh. Doc's Club 24, Stein's 2 Doc's Club kept cruisin' and Stein's kept losin' in a Sunday softball match-up that wasn't a very pretty sight. Doc's was up to standard stand-ard as they dumped a sleepy Stein's 24-2 taking their record to 3-0 while Stein's stays winless at 0-2. Doc's, acting more like a Panzer division than a soft-ball soft-ball team, sent a blitzkreig through the Stein's, and batted bat-ted around the order in the second inning. Once rolling, with a phalanx of hitting that made the opposition more gun-shy by the minute, Doc's poured it on in a fashion that has only been witnessed at BYU. Goodnight Irene. Glad-E-Aters 29, End Run 10 Tuesday night saw the slaughter of the End Run, 29-10 29-10 by a demonic Glad-E-Aters club. The Macho Glad squad ran up a list of home runs and extra base hits that can't be listed here. After three innings the score stood at 21 to 6. Only Babe Ruth and Frank Arnold know if there is room in heaven for a team who would clobber an opponent so mercilessly. Women's Softball Just Arnie's made sure they are still number one in the women's league on Monday Mon-day while the Sneaker's were in hot pursuit. Both ; clubs are - in the no-loss column .with4 Arnie's at 3 0;, and the Sneakers 2-0 for the two-week-old season. Sneakers 23, Thrillseekers 14 The Sneakers tromped on the Thrillseekers right from the get-go Monday with 14 runs in the first inning on seven bases on balls by disappointing Seekers' pitching. pitch-ing. The Thrillseekers tried a gallant eleventh-hour charge with seven runs in the sixth inning. The Seekers now fade to a 1-2 record for the season. Just Arnie's 29, Prospector Sirloin 3 Just Arnie's made it just real clear who was winning in the late game Monday night. Prospector Sirloin was chopped to pieces 29-3 by the buzzsaw known as Just Arnie's. At the end of two innings it was 12-zip. The Sirloin made a mad dash in the third inning in-ning with three runs, that showing wasn't quite enough as Just Arnie's brought out the cleavers to show the Sirloin that there really is no justice. |
