Show Utah logo will go to World Cup races with U.S. Ski Team by JIM SMEDLE Y Record staff writer Alan Ross, executive director of the United States Ski Team, announced Jan. 7 that his team ' will be flying the colors of Utah-" and those of a California investment invest-ment and banking firm. The Park City Chamber of CommerceConvention & Visitors Bureau, the Park City Ski Area, the Salt Lake Visitors & Convention Bureau and Ski Utah have combined to purchase space on the women's ski uniforms promoting pro-moting Utah. Montgomery Securities, a San Francisco-based investment and banking firm, purchased space on the men's ski uniforms. The Utah coalition and the investment in-vestment firm will spend $100,000 ChamberBureau executive director), Craig Badami (Park City Ski Area vice president and marketing director) and Rick Davis (Salt Lake Visitors & Convention Con-vention Bureau) who understood the potential of the whole thing from the begining," Ross added. "As soon as they were approached ap-proached they did everything they could to make it fly." The contract for the ski emblems will run until Sept. 1, 1986. At that time, negotiations will be reopened. Ross said the initial in-itial purchasers of the emblem will have the "inside track" on renewing the program once the contract ends. Ross said Montgomery Securities had their tags ready Jan. 7. The "Ski Utah" tags were expected to be ready by about Jan. 9. The Utah tags are approximately approx-imately 1.5 by 4.8 inches. The entire en-tire emblem will be bordered in goTd'and h'tfve a white 1 -background. The word "Ski" will be blue and the "Utah" will be red. Ross said that Tom Weisel, the president of Montgomery Securities, also is the president of the United States Ski Educational Foundation. "We're really happy about closing the deal with these two groups," Ross said. "It should certainly enhance the visibility of Montgomery and the Ski Utah emblem will benefit a lot of people peo-ple outside the realm of those who worked so hard to get it done." apiece for the project. The patch on the women's uniforms will read, "Ski Utah," while the patch on the men's uniforms will read, "Montgomery "Mon-tgomery Securities." The International Ski Federation Federa-tion ruled last summer that national na-tional teams can sell advertising on racers' uniforms. The advertising adver-tising can be no larger than 30 square centimeters per outfit and lettering is limited to a height of 15milimeters. Roughly, 2.5 centimeters equals one inch. So an emblem 2.5 centimeters by 12 centimeters would be 1 inch by 4.8 inches. Ross originally offered the state of Utah the opportunity to purchase the advertising. But enough support could not be garnered to fund the full project. "1 would have preferred one sponsor, but I was always prepared to make a split. However, I did not want to divide the project by more than two," Ross said. "If there had to be a split, this is the way it should be done.
