Show 'Russian weightlifter' helps police ring in the New Year told police that ha didn't see a case of liquor in the vehicle. On Jan. 1, Michael L. Ellis told police that his skis were stolen from the Park City Ski Area when he went inside to buy a drink. The report states that he was gone less than five minutes. The skis are described as K-2 model 812 with Salomon 240D bindings. bin-dings. The value of the skis and bindings is set at $375. Another case of "public intoxication" in-toxication" graces the police blotter on Jan. 2. According to the report, a 30-year-old Park City man was running down Main Street with a full mug of beer at 9 p.m. When police approached the subject sub-ject and ask him to throw the beer out, they observed that his speech was slurred. The subject informed the officers that he was going to drink the beer and ran up the street. The suspect was later found in Mileti's bar and cited for public intoxication. He was released to the custody of a friend, the report states. The manager of the In-termountain In-termountain Lodging and Reservation Center, Nora Sheffield, reported on Dec. 28 that various power tools had been stolen from Inter- mountain's storeroom sometime some-time between Dec. 26 and 28. All the tools were of the Black and Decker brand, according to Sheffield. Missing are: a saber saw, a skill saw, a router, a concrete con-crete drill with compressor and various drill bits. The equipment is valued in excess ex-cess of $1,000. On Jan. 1, Mary Barrena of Oakley told police that she put a small load of laundry in the laundromat at 461 Main Street at 4:30 p.m. When she returned the clothing was gone. Missing is: one ladies gray and green down vest valued at $80, one men's gray down vest valued at $80, and one pair of long underwear un-derwear valued at $27. Fhth Circuit Court Richard Riley, 325 McHenry Ave. Park City was found guilty of DUI and sentenced Friday, Dec. 28 in Judge Larry H. Keller's Fifth Circuit Court. Riley was fined $299 and sentenced to six months in jail. The jail sentence will be suspended upon payment of the fine. Additionally, Riley was fined $150 for alcohol treatment programs and $100 which will go to the state victim restitution fund. A busy Park City Police Department, hustling to keep pace with a plethora of minor traffic accidents and holiday thefts, responding to the Utah Coal and Lumber Friday night where the New Year was rung in prematurely with a gunshot blast through the ceiling. Police arrived at the Utah Coal and Lumber at 2:41 a.m. Saturday where reportedly report-edly an "intoxicated individual" in-dividual" was causing problems and would not leave. Upon arrival police found that the restaurant's manager had fired a .357 magnum handgun through the ceiling in an apparent attempt at-tempt to quell the disturbance disturb-ance caused by the drunk and disorderly patron. According Accor-ding to the manager's report to the police, the drunk subject sub-ject had broken two beer bottles bot-tles and a shot glass before the warning shot was fired through the ceiling. The manager stated to police that the subject, listed as John Doe, told him he was a "Russian weightlifter." Police took the intoxicated man into custody. He would not identify himself and police found no form of identification iden-tification upon a body search. sear-ch. He was booked into the Summit County Jail in Coalville on a charge of disorderly public intoxication. in-toxication. The manager at Utah Coal and Lumber was cited for serving liquor after hours and brandishing a loaded firearm. On Dec. 31, a resident of the Park Hotel telephoned the Park City Police Department De-partment to report that an alarm had gone off at the High Alpine Ski Shop. The resident reported that he saw someone in the shop. When police arrived, however, no one was there but the rear entrance showed the signs of being pried open. Later, Dean Peters of High Alpine reported report-ed that one pair of Atomic ARC skis 205 centimeters in length was missing from the shop. The skis are valued at $161. A New York City man, Jack Fishman, told police that on Dec. 29 his skis were stolen from the skating rink at the Park City Ski Area. The skis are listed as Olin Mark IV with Look bindings. They are valued at $200. Also on Dec. 29, Carol Nelson of Provo, Utah told police that her purse was stolen from her family's mobile home while it was parked in the lot at the Park City Ski Area. She stated that when she returned from skiing, the wing window had been pried open and her purse was missing. It is described as a brown leather envelope-type with an old beige wallet. The wallet contained con-tained $300 in cash, various credit cards and a driver's license. Robert H. Hicks of Murray, Utah told police on Dec. 30 that while he was dining in the Claimjumper someone stole his wallet and a medical kit. Hicks told police that while in the restroom, he turned his back and they were gone. The wallet is described at maroon-colored leather wallet wal-let containing approximately approxi-mately $15 in cash. The medical kit is black leather and contains diabetic medication. The kit and the medication are valued al $175. A New Orleans woman, Stephanie LeBourgeois reported to the Park City I Police Dec. 31 that someone i had gotten into her locker at ' the Ski Area while she was busy putting on her ski boots . Her report states that $145 in cash is missing. Another Louisiana resident, resi-dent, John M. Spain of Baton Rouge reported on Dec. 31 that his wife's $2,100 Rolex watch was stolen from their condominium apartment apart-ment at the Shadow Ridge Condominiums. The Rolex was last seen on the back of the toilet, according to the report. The management of Shadow Ridge said that they plan to check with the cleaning personnel on the missing watch. Steve Erickson of Coalville told police on Dec. 31 that the ski rack was stolen from his car which he parked on level "B" of the underground lot at the Ski Area while he went skiing. The rack is described as a "Sport Rack" and is valued at $80. Also on Dec. 31, Brenda Lee Wilson of Kamas reported report-ed to the police that $38 was stolen from her purse which she left in the employee lounge at the Sweetwater Condoshare building near the Ski Area. Police have a number of suspects in the case. Edward H. Snoddy reported report-ed to the Park City Police Department on Dec. 31 that a case of liquor was stolen from his truck. He told police that he was forced to abandon aban-don his vehicle in the i Ridgeview area on the night of Dec. 30 because he had become stuck. The truck was i later towed by Miner's Auto, according to the report. When Snoddy retrieved his , vehicle the booze was gone. , The driver of the tow truck |
