Show Kenny Sitzberger, former Par kite, dies Former Parkite and one-time Olympic Olym-pic gold medalist Kenneth R. (Kenny) Sitzberger died Jan. 2, 1984 in his sleep of an apparent brain hemorrhage at his home in Coronado, California. He was 38. Sitzberger became the youngest gold medalist in the history of the Olympics when he captured the three-meter springboard event in the 1964 games in Tokyo at the age of 19. He graduated from Indiana University in 1967. During his collegiate years he collected collect-ed 10 national diving titles. Upon graduation, Sitzberger was offered a Rhodes Scholarship but declined the honor to enter business. He moved to Park City in 1979. Sitzberger held interests in a number of Main Street properties. However, his greatest interests were in projects in Deer Valley, particularly The Pinnacle development. He moved to Coronado in January, 1982 to pursue business interests there. Sitzberger also had manufacturing and development interests in Chicago, near his home town of Oak Park, Illinois. However, his main source of recognition since his Olympic triumph has been his color commentary for ABC's Wide World of Sports. He did diving commentary for ABC for some 16 years: ABC television had just signed Sitzberger to do the color commentary for the 1984 summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife Jeanne, also a medalist in diving in the 1964 Tokyo games, and daughters Stephanie, Ste-phanie, 16, Jamie, 15 and Krissy 11. Sitzberger is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Sitzberger of Oak Park, Illinois. A wake will be held in Elliston, Illinois Thursday, Jan. 5 from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Elliston Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at St. Isaac's Church, Hinsdale, Illinois on Friday, Jan. 6 at 10 a.m. |
