Show Alarm Triggers School Evacuation A sophisticated smoke alarm located in the air intake system at the new Treasure Mountain Middle School went off last Wednesday, Wed-nesday, bringing volunteer firefighters rushing to the scene, while students were being evacuated from the new facility. Volunteer fireman Jim Santy said firefighters quickly quick-ly determined there was not a fire at the school. He said the occurence was nonetheless nonethe-less a "good drill for the students" and complimented Principal Brian Schiller and the faculty for the fine job they did insuring the safety of the students. Schiller also had words of praise for the quick response of the volunteers. Santy is not sure what triggered the alarm, but thinks it may be related to the slight temperature inversion inver-sion experienced that day. "The high pressure could have trapped some chimney smoke in the air around the school which may have set off the sensitive alarm," he said. |
