Show Planner clarifies history of commissioner's sign by RICK BROUGH Record staff writer Amending a statement he made last week, Summit County Planning Director Jerry Smith said he did offer of-fer advice on a real-estate sign conducted con-ducted lor county commissioner Tom Flinders that did not comply with Snyderville Basin Development Code. The sign, placed last month by the south side of 1-80 east of Kimball Junction, was a double-sided construction con-struction with each sign face having an area of 128 square feet. It advertised adver-tised acreage in the Snyderville Basin. However, the Snyderville Code Nov. 5, he found a note about a conversation con-versation with "Larry Fells" from Design Signs. The note also says the conversation concerned the size of a sign along 1-80 for sale property. Smith s.iid he cannnt recall the conversation, but would assume he quoted the appropriate section of the code. "I can't help but wonder if I communicated with Mr. Sells in the manner I thought I did," Smith said. The letter extended an apology to both Flinders and Sells (please see Letter to the Editor on page A3 ) . Flinders, meanwhile, said he had taken down the sign, but felt that Smith's statements had "exonerated" "ex-onerated" him. Designs president Larry Sells (ported to him later that he talked to Smith about Nov. 14 and was ad-, vised that for every 300 feet of frontage fron-tage on the freeway property, a loo-square-loot sign could be erected. Smith told the Record last week he could not recall talking to Sells and lound no record of the conversation.
