The Christmas exhibit will be housed in the center's Main Gallery and the Saint-Thomas collection will be shown in the Little Gallery. The Art of Christmas Present will feature the work of over 80 artists from across the countiy. Art in all price categories and media will be available, and pieces may be removed from the exhibit at time of purchase. According to Kimball Art Center Gallery Shop Manager Man-ager Michelle Anderson, the Christmas exhibit will feature fea-ture work by artists who have shown in the Main and Little Galleries, the Gallery Shop and the Park City Art Festival. Salt Lake's Gregory Saint-Thomas Saint-Thomas will bring recent sculpture, jewelry and paintings paint-ings to the Little Gallery. Saint-Thomas is a versatile artist who also composes music. He has said his sculpture is related to his music in the flow and rhythm of the forms. "My choice of colors, to begin with, rises from my belief that only in opposition can we achieve perfection that just as red needs green to be complete, just as man needs woman to be complete, com-plete, so also does the individual need some of the traits of both men and women to be complete." The fiery red color used in his paintings, usually representing re-presenting the masculine form, is supposed to "express "ex-press power, energy, dominance, dom-inance, the ego, the world of flesh." The cool green color, typically used in his female forms, symbolizes "creativity, "creativi-ty, otherworldliness, the domain of the spirit. " The Art of Christmas Present and the Gregory Saint-Thomas exhibits will be on display through Dec. 14. There will be an opening reception for both exhibits Sunday, Nov. 20 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Kimball Art Center. The reception is free and the public is invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served. These exhibits are being sponsored by Stein Eriksen Lodge. |
