Show Floods dampen holiday King Road was doused by two small floods of water during the Labor Day holiday, due to a malfunctioning valve. The first flood poured down King Road sometime Saturday night and was discovered the following morning. The second was reported to the city about 4 p.m. on Labor Day, Sept. 2. ' Public Works Director Jerry Gibbs said the source of the mishaps was the same in both cases. An altitude valve on the Woodside Reservoir, above King Road, failed to shut off when the tank was full. Water spilled over the reservoir, flowed across the street and went into in-to the storm system, flooding out at two or three points along King Road. A valve malfunction usually occurs oc-curs in a power shortage, Gibbs said. In that event, a 2-inch bypass is operated manually to close the valve. |
