Show P.C women finish 3rd in soccer tournament The Park City Kicks, fortified by University of Utah players, . took third place in the women's division of the Rocky Mountain Invitational Soccer Tournament Labor Day weekend. The Kicks lost to Vail 4-0 and the Pan World team 3-0 Saturday. Boise, Idaho, became the Kick's first victim vic-tim in an 8 a.m. Sunday game falling 5-0. Park City edged the Salt Lake Griffin team 2-1 in its Saturday afternoon contest. The Kicks struck first with only 20 seconds remaining in the first half on a one-on-one goal by Linda Davis. Boise tied the game when a corner kick had just the right spin and the right wind to sneak past the outstretched outstret-ched arms of 5-foot, 2-inch Kicks goalie Cheryl Allen. Mona Cotter scored the winning goal by firing a shot that teammate Davis bounced off - the goalie. Because the Kicks and the S.L. Griffins Grif-fins were tied for third place, they had to face each other one more time. Park City scored first with three minutes left in the first half. This time Susan Samuel centered the ball about 15 feet in front of the center box to teammate Sue Ivey. Ivey calmly popped a delicate chip shot past the goalie. The Griffins tied the game with five minutes left, forcing a 10-minute overtime. The Kicks ended the game in about two minutes when Ivey fed Davis a crisp pass and Davis again scored unassisted. |
