Show ParkWest to host mogul contest If pounding through the moguls is your idea of a good time, then this may be your ticket to stardom . On Saturday, ParkWest Resort will host an Intermountain Division freestyle mogul event sanctioned by the United States Ski Association ;(U.S.S.A.). Since, the decision was made, fo include J'reestyle skiing (aerials, ballet and moguls) in the 1988 Olympics, organizations and events have been springing up around the country. About a year ago two separale freestyle groups were formed at the Park City Ski Area (with the understanding that they would not practice aerials). They participated in several meets last winter, and began preparing for this season with the start of dryland training in November. Park City was well represented when the first Intermountain Division freestyle competition of 1985 was held in Jackson Hole earlier this month. Parkites were particularly strong in the mogul events, sweeping the top five places in the Junior ( ages 12 and 13 ) group. This weekend the focus shifts to Utah, with moguls at ParkWest 's Massacre run Saturday and ballet at Solitude Sunday. That will be followed by moguls and ballet at Powder Mountain Feb. 9-10. The ParkWest event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Registration ($20 for U.S.S.A. members, $40 for non-members) will be held in the ParkWest main lodge cafeteria from 7 to 9 a.m. For more information call ParkWest at 649-5400. |
