Show Food for the Mind & Soul There is nothing quite like the taste of a really sharp cheddar cheese, one that has been aged for more than 18 months. Or the flavor of a ring bologna or wurst naturally cased and correctly seasoned. season-ed. Where in the world could you find something like that outside of Wisconsin, the state famous for its cheeses, sausages and savory delights? de-lights? How about at the Park City Village. Food For Thought, which opened Dec. 18, has the goods, including an array of Wisconsin made products. Owner Tim Mertens and the store's day-to-day, do-everything do-everything person, Maureen (Now That's Irish) McGuire, have collected foods that will take you to a grassy meadow at the foot of the Alps, or send visions of mountainside picnics in the snow dancing across your mind. The grub here is good, there is no doubt about that. ! "We're doing cheese I plates for the condos and we I have a backpackers lunch for ; two that's $10, minus the backpack," Mertens said, j Or, you can stop in for a 50 cent wurst on a bun or any other number of quick snacks to appease the appetite. Available are crossiants, french pastries, sandwiches and, perhaps best of all, a wide selection of the finest cheeses at very, very reasonable reason-able prices. Mertens said he determined determin-ed from his trips to out-of-state ski areas as a manufacturer's manufac-turer's rep that Food For Thought, and the ideas it incorporates, was a must for Park City. As the sole owner ("Me and. the bank"), Mertens says he did all the original food selection, a chore that has been taken over by Maureen. The shop is open from 7:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. seven days a week, on the ground floor of the new complex at the resort. The coffee is always brewing, the beer is cold and, if things go right, the store could wind up as a retail specialty wine outlet. Application has been made to the Utah Liquor Control Commission for a package wine license, a touch that would make Food For Thought even more palatable.
