Show Letters City because of the hospitality hospital-ity of many individuals and businesses. Thanks go to the Hunts, Stovers, McCombs, Petersons, Peter-sons, Irvines, Boecks, Hans-corns, Hans-corns, Richards, and Ruzic-kas Ruzic-kas for keeping students in their home, to Jan's for supplying ski equipment free of charge, to Park City Ski Resort for giving them a reduced rate on ski passes, and to Dr. Schiller, the staff and students at the Treasure Mountain Middle School for welcoming the AFSers to the school and being so interested interest-ed in their presentations. It was heartening to know that the purpose of AFS, promoting promot-ing peace and understanding among the people of the world, was being fulfilled here in Park City this past weekend. SueWoriey AFS Area Counselor disgard, and produce a new worker or two every day. Don't replace me with high-priced help. Instead, do the following: 1. Scrape plates into the garbage pail, not the disposal dispo-sal or sink. 2. After cooking with grease, pour it into an empty can or bottle, let it cool and throw it in the garbage. 3. Don't grind up animal fat in the disposal. Throw it out with the trash. Doing these things also keeps your drains from plugging. 4. And you restaurants! Watch out! I understand the great grease-trap crack down is coming. Unless you've got one and keep it clean, these guys are gonna let you haul your own wastewater away in buckets. A little care by a lot of people can make a big difference. Thanks. Hairy Flagellate Editor's Note: As near as we can tell "Hairy Flagellate" Flagel-late" is a personification of a single cell bacteria of the protozoan family. The creature moves by whipping a hair-like appendage called flagellum and is classified, biologically, as a flagellate. Super Patrol Dear Editor: Plaudits For Ski Patrol As luck would have it, 40 years of skiing have given Chuck and me ample opportunity oppor-tunity to sample mountain' rescue around the world. The most professional team we have found is at Park City. We both have the dubious distinction of being carried off the mountain here, Chuck most recently when he wrapped himself around a tree in Blue Slip Bowl where he broke his hips and femur in five places. Our gratitude and admiration admira-tion go to the skillful team of six or seven patrolmen for extracting him from the tree and getting him down the difficult terrain without doing any further damage to his mangled body. Thanks to their skill and professional handling, none of the bones displaced, so he'll need no operation nor cast and will be back on the job at Edelweiss (on crutches) within six days and back on his skis in four to six weeks. Adding kindness beyond the call of duty, the patrol and Peter Marth searched for and found Chuck's missing ski. Phil Jones runs a great mountain operation, and we find how much that counts when we run into rea trouble. Chuck and Suzanne Rowan Positive Force Dear Editor: Have you noticed the emergence of a positive force in our community? With all the change in Park City is anything getting better? You bet it is! The Middle School is in it's Renaissance. Here is a place with a comfortable working feeling. Here is an atmosphere of learning and a place to create. Notice the attitudes of students toward one another, toward teachers and staff and toward their principal, Dr. Brian Schiller, the leadership of this man has to be a major reason why the school is running so smoothly. His professional attitude commands respect. He has working knowledge of the classroom and its problems and activities. I have spoken to many teachers teach-ers who appreciate his support and practical help. They feel comfortable using him as a resource. He genuinely cares for his faculty and they know it. He provides training on the job and programs to further their study, enhance their teaching teach-ing and boost their morale. He is highly qualified in teacher training (see Variables Varia-bles Influencing the Effectiveness Effec-tiveness Of Inservice Education Educa-tion For Educators, Dr. Brian T. Schiller). He creates an environment for excellence, then expects its. He communicates with parents on a personal level. . He knows how important Please turn to page 12A Many Thanks Dear Editor: Dear Friends and Neighbors, We wish to thank you for your out pouring of love, kindness, and sympathy during our recent loss. Thank you for your contributions contribu-tions to the memorials set up in Gene's name at the Park City Community Church, the Park City EMTs, and the Shriner's Hospital. Thank you also to the kind people who set up and made contributions to the fund at the Silver King Bank. The warmth and pulling together of friends we have experienced is one of the reasons Gene loved Park City so much. Park City has many truly beautiful people. Love and peace, Mary, Dan and Amy Austin More Thanks Dear Editor: Thirteen AFS foreign exchange ex-change students will return to Europe, Africa and Asia with fond memories of Park Slime Writes Dear Editor: As a resident of the Wastewater Reclamation Plant at East Canyojf, I must let you know about' a serious problem which is affecting my lifestyle. I spend most of my time swimming in the digesters at the plant. It used to be a great sport, but during the last year I've started choking on the grease which is washed down sinks and disposals. ; Glenn Turpin, the Treatment Superintendent says that when grease concentrations, (which normally are about 10) exceed 15, I can't do my job without expensive help from enzymes. The grease levels have reached 23 (gag me with a french fry) and unless it goes down, it's enzyme time! Now, I'm a cheap worker ! compared to enzymes. In fact, I eat what others More Letters Continued from Page 2A year's Festival. My sincere thanks and appreciation to all of you. Cordially, Saundra Saperstein Press Director United States Film and Video Festival Citizens Thanked Dear Editor: The Park City Fire Department Depart-ment would like to pub'icly thank Al Allen, Ranae Martinez, Dan Clark, Val Cowan and Steve Barrett for their help in trying to save the life of Oscar Salazar, the Alpha Beta employee struck down by a heart attack on Jan. 25. It's nice to know that there are those people who care enough to jump into an unpleasant situation and try to help someone who is in need. Again, Al, Ranae, Dan, Val and Steve, Thanks! Park City Fire Department listening is. He "makes decisions. His courage in trying new ideas made education take a giant step foreward. Notice the positive force for all involved in last year's Arches outdoor education educa-tion trip. But most of all -- take a walk on the campus and experience for yourself the love shared between the 350 or so students and this grand man. The way to inspire' those youngsters is happen-1 ing right now and its happening here. Charisima-tic Charisima-tic discipline is the least definable and the most effective way to run a classroom or a school. Dr. Schiller really knows those kids and cares. He has some personal contact with each kid every day. Sometimes Some-times he goes into a class for roll. Sometimes he teaches a lesson. Sometimes he reminds re-minds a kid it's healthy to wear shoes in the hall. But he knows them and provides adult recognition to kids at an age when they need understanding so desperately. I hope this board of education and community realizes his fine contribution to us all by his support to our kids and leadership in the! endeavor of education. I 4 further urge this board and community to provide incentive incen-tive and support for Dr. Brian Schiller so many years of continuity and refining can take place at Treasure Mountain Middle School in Park City. Sincerely, Agnes Desimone Film Fest Thanks Dear Editor: On behalf of the entire Festival staff, please allow me to express my gratitude for the trememdous support that your paper and the people of Park City have given to the Fifth Annual United States Film and Video Festival.
