Show Budget Indicates Tax Hikes As City Manager Arlene Loble' s proposed budget for the 1982 - 1983 fiscal year stands now, residents can anticipate a 50 percent increase in the mill levy assessed by the city against real property next year. Loble proposes to raise property taxes by 3.41 mills for the general fund with an additional levy of 4.27 mills attatched to retire the bonds issued last summer to pay for the renovation of the Miner's Hospital. Although initial estimates placed the hospital increase around 3 mills, the City Manager claims the actual increase was higher because the value of one mill in Park City appears to be actually worth around $40,000 when earlier estimates esti-mates placed it near $60,000. Loble adds the mill levy for the hospital will be lower next year and decrease thereafter as the $720,000 library bond issue is slowly retired. The hospital-library levy combined with the general fund increase will add 7.68 mills to the municipal levy next year. That added to the J 15 mills roughly assessed now makes up the 50 increase for a total levy next year of around 23 mills. The municipal mill levy is added to a school district levy as well as assessments from Summit County, the fire district and possibly the sewer district to form the property owner's total tax bill. The City Council will hold a special public hearing June 3 to gain citizen input pertaining pertain-ing to the proposed budeet. More information on the budget will be published next week. |
