E RUBEL Everybody loves heroes When persons distinguish themselves themselves themselves them them- selves in athletics in science on the battlefield as explorers we admire their exploits TO BE a genuine Christian requires real heroism J ot all of us usi Christians to be sure are heroic people Some of ofus ofus ofus us are anything but heroes of the faith A person has to be made of pretty stern stem stuff to be a really heroic Christian There have been many great heroes of the faith down through the centuries Their names and exploits are recorded record record- ed on the pages of secular and religious history One such listing of Christian heroes is to tobe tobe tobe be found in the Bible in Hebrews Hebrews Hebrews He He- brews chapter 11 There are many heroes of the faith inthe inthe in inthe the world of our day too We need more of them to characterize character character- ize Christianity in these modern modern modern mod mod- ern days TO BE A Christian hero one must first of all have a great faith in Jesus Christ I He must have the courage to withstand attacks upon his Christian faith and life He Hem II m must st possess the determination determination determination to walk in the paths of God He must above all else demonstrate unswerving unswerving unswerving ing loyalty to the Word of God the Bible To display such qualities one must fol follow follow fol- fol low the exhortation of fOl 1 St. St Paul to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might Ephesians 6 10 Heroes often receive medals and awards True believers in Christ who walk worthy of their high calling in Christ Jesus will someday receive the commendation of our Lord Well done thou good and faithful servant CHRISTIAN heroism has its own o reward a crown of everlasting life with God in heaven after a fruitful life of joy and happiness on earth I |
