Show Dont Don't Let Davis Die Growth in Davis County is a known knO fact and we need only to look at the school population to prove this Until 1956 Davis High was the only high school in the county and from the beginning Davis High School has represented represented represented Davis County very well by its scholastic and athletic ath- ath letic achievements SO FAR the oldest high school in the county has seen four new schools break away and begin lives for themselves The boundaries set up to help each of these four schools have taken students away from Davis High The old school were we're certain feels proud to have been a part of this growth and achievement Now you are letting the first Davis County High School fall behind this growth pattern by your alignment of stu stu- dents When setting boundaries for the five high schools you apparently forgot fagot abo about Davis High sHigh School J. J THE BOUNDARIES set set up for the 70 1969 school y year r leaves Davis with only students in grades l I through 12 School enrollment records in the Davis High area for this year list only students in kindergarten first and second gra grades s. s This means that for the next ten years these tese boundaries boundaries boundaries bound bound- aries will keep Davis Highs High's enrollment between and students In all honesty can you justify this enrollment enrollment enrollment enroll enroll- ment for the oldest high school in the county WHEN THE opportunity for students taking accelerated classes and various school programs are cut back because the Davis enrollment doesn't warrant more class periods for a given subject then you should take another look at your high school enrollment You are taking away some I of the opportunity for Davis students to achieve and excel scholastically and athletically A change of boundaries could eliminate the wide gap inthe inthe in inthe the school enrollments and put Davis back to the 1000 to 1200 level This change would give the Davis students the same academic opportunities the other high schools' schools students have ITS IT'S NOT TOO late to take appropriate action to support Davis High School a little after it has done its share over the past J years to help the Davis County School district grow Enrollment figures for the 70 1969 school year as presented presented presented pre pre- to the Board of Directors of the Utah High School Activities Association shows the following enrollments for I Davis County High Schools Viewmont 1824 Clearfield 1714 Bountiful 1379 Lay Layton ton 1146 Davis In the Region Two division ision youre you're asking Davis to compete com can compete pete against schools that have enrollments of 1146 to 2980 students On a state basis Davis has the lowest enrollment enrollment enrollment en en- of any school assigned to the AA classification as set up by the Utah High School Activities Association THIS LETTER is intended to let the people in the Davis High area know what hat is happening to their school and you as Board Members to know knob that man many parents are upset ift that you have let iet this situation happen pi n If other parents and taxpayers feel this situation should should be changed then we urge you to notify the school board of your wishes SIGNED BY MAYORS Charles Dredge and L L.
