Show W 1 Quality Health Care for Women Quality health care for women is once more in danger of disappearing from our community - possibly in danger of oeiiig totally destroyed all over our country, if people le Senator Hatch win their political battles,. Washington, DC is now the arena in which the fight for national health care programs is going on. Planned Parenthood has filed suit against the government (naming Hatch as having applied political pressure in the decision-making process), which has effectively removed all funds from nationally-supported organizations (Planned Parenthood and Park City Community Clinic, for instance) and given them over to individual states for use at their discretion. The Utah State Department of Kalth now has the money which, until a few months ago, was the legal property of Planned Parenthood and the Park City Community Clinic. Between the two, they have served 70-80 percent of all patients in Utah - leaving the Health Department with 20-30 percent of the load. (Perhaps these figures represent the people's choice in quality health care.) There is no shortage of funds on a national level for family planning. In fact, the issue has received a top priority on a national level due to the high rate of illegitimacy, child' abuse and teenage pregnancies. For some reason, the government has seen fit to stop administering monies itself and given this job over to the states. Planned Parenthood (and the Park City Community Clinic with a legal intervention in the suit) are now trying to find out why. Three years ago, concerned citizens in the Park City community fought and won a battle to bring effective health care to our area; health care that is conscientious, careful and committed. The people behind this clinic believe it is every individual's right to know the workings of their own bodies, to plan their pregnancies, to pay for medical care according to their abilities, and to expect to be treated with respect and dignity. If you believe in these principles; do what you can to support them. Saturday, November 27, is the date for the Third Annual Christmas Fair and Swap Meet. It is a fund-raiser for the Park City Community Clinic. Aside from being a happy affair with food, drink and bargains for all, it is our chance to show the Community Clinic that we need its services and are willing to support it. Reserve a space to sell your goods (crafts, collectables, wearables, etc.) or come by to browse and buy. Doors at the Memorial Gym open at 11:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. for the affair. Come and help us raise money to keep the clinic in operation. Call me at 649-1573 or Judy at 649-6139 to reserve a space for $5. Donations of saleable items will be accepted, as well as foods for our famous sandwiches, and our door prizes. We need our clinic; let's give it all we can. |
