Show Faster Response Time Dear Editor: The tragic death of Joel Shapiro in a fire Sunday causes me to reinforce . earlier statements I have made in support of improved fire protection for Park City area residents. Last week I wrote calling for the fire station to be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The three paid firefighters were not on duty Sunday afternoon when this fire occurred. Response time for the volunteers was excellent-seven minutes to get to the fire station, get the equipment and then to the fire. .They did a very effective job of controlling the fire. Had the station been staffed, the response time could have been less than two minutes. The five minutes saved could have meant the difference between be-tween life or death-major property damage or minor loss. I again call for a three man quick response crew to be in the station at all times. This can be done by using the paid firefighters and the present volunteers in the station. Many' of the volunteers are willing one or two days a week to accomplish accom-plish this. Present revenues permit this to be done. No tax increase is necessary.
