High school students from throughout Utah will see diamonds manufactured, ' watch lasers in action and learn to program computers . at Brigham Young Univers-ity's Univers-ity's annual Natural and Mathematical Sciences Conference Con-ference Saturday, Oct. 25. More than 300 professors of mathematics, statistics, chemistry, physics, geology ' zoology and microbiology -. will conduct short classes in . their specialty areas, accord-. accord-. . ing : to Mike Garey, a chemistry major who is helping to coordinate the con ference. ., The conference is open to all high school students (grades 10-12) and to teach-. , V ers' from throughout Utah. Registration will begain at 8:am pm the Joseph Smith' :7 Memorial Building on the - '. . J '".' ... Students interested it registering before Oct. 25 should contact their high school science or math teacher, or call 378-4903. All activities of the conference con-ference will take place in classrooms and laboratories on the BYU campus. During the conference, students will have opportunities to use microscopes and computers, view slides of Mt.St. Helens, discuss mathematical enigmas, enig-mas, experience Newtonian relativity and statistical!) examine the authorship oi the Book of Mormon, among other activities. Also as part of th conference, 32 teams fron : Utah high schools wil participate in a Science Bowl.
