Along with parking, which Planning Director Bill Ligety described as "one of the . most crucial," the Commission Commis-sion also explored what impact the project would have on traffic circulation at the Resort area as well as throughout the rest of town. Developer Jack Davis is now proposing an - under ground parking facility to f accommodate 2,700; cars; . parking for the entire deve- . lopment would be completely underground. - Van Martin, architect at J.J. Johnson Associates, said that in communicating with Resort officials, the skier capacity at the Resort in the future will be 16,000 with 21 lift lines! Using these figures, Mr. Martin added that 2,560 parking spaces would accommodate that , number. . Architect Bruce Erickson. also of J.J. Johnson's Office, said 2, 700 spaces should be more than enough to accommodate ac-commodate tuture skier capacity ca-pacity at the Resort. He also pointed out three variables which : could affect the . Resort's business in the future: smaller cars, fewer out-of-state skiers arriving in cars, and the development of , a mass transportation system in Park City. Bill Ligety pointed out that "as this development takes place, there will be more attraction for non: skier people," indicating there, c, people," indicating there could be more people at the Resort than the skier capacity. capa-city. " I think ' we have to deal with this project as a PUD (Planned Unit Development),' Develop-ment),' said Mr. Martin adding, i. "Parking requirements require-ments may change in the future." Traffic Engineer Wayne Van Wagoner said that considering the project will offer expanded base facilities (ice skating rink, various shopping stores, etc.), the peak exit time for customers . will be spread out over a larger period of time. And Mr. Van Wagoner empha-y sized that the success of the project's traffic situation depends largely pn the city developing a mass' transit system. - Commission. member Greg Lawson said before a project of this' magnitude is considered, consi-dered, existing traffic problems pro-blems at the Resort should be resolved, first. "I don't see much point in moving ahead with this project until we clear up the problems (traffic) we've got," he said. "The city and the Resort have to clear up the parking problems ... This town dows not have unlimited un-limited capacity." Mr. Lawson also said Deer f Valley Resort would have a remendous impact on parking park-ing and traffic in Park City. |
