Show ed the request from the Park City Chamber of Commerce to be allowed to place two 65 by 25 foot signs on Interstate 80 near the Park City turnoffs. The signs would generally portray the Park City vicinity as a historic and recreational area with only gen-'eral gen-'eral reference to the services available. According to the Chamber, Cham-ber, State and Federal personnel involved in allowing signs on the Interstate have agreed to grant variances for signs if the County also agrees to their construction. The arrangements would be thus: 1. The Park City Chamber would first seek county approval for the design of the sign. 2. Park City Chamber would construct the sign, deed it to the county and lease the sign space. 3. The Chamber will notify those who presently own signs along highways high-ways 224 and 248 of county law prohibiting these signs after Aug. 1, 1980 and ask for their cooperation co-operation in having signs removed remov-ed prior to the erection of the two large signs. By unanimous vote the Planning Plan-ning Commission has recommended recom-mended that you approve the request of the Park City Chamber of Commerce subject to the above stipulations. Community Map The long awaited Community Map is now a reality and the base map and first two overlays are available in the Chamber office for members to use. We were pleased to have a number of guests, representing mainly the ad hoc committee for the proposed Park City Convention Conven-tion and Visitors Bureau. The following areas were discussed. Chamber of Commerce-Convention Bureau relationship A large amount of time was spent in a discussion of the relationship between the two organizations org-anizations and it was a unanimous unani-mous feeling of both the Chamber board and Convention Bureau organizers that the two would have to work closely together since so many of their duties and responsibilities would overlap. A basic framework that was suggested sug-gested for the overlap of the two organizations is as follows: The Chamber of Commerce would be responsible for business concerns, promoting more activities activi-ties in the summer, expanding the Arts Festival, dealing with promotion and information on a local (meaning Wasatch Front as well as Park City) level and functioning as a visitor and information in-formation center once people arrive ar-rive in town. The Convention Bureau would . be responsible for marketing and advertising and selling Chamber organized activities and Park City , in general to areas outside the Wasatch Front and would also be responsible for seeking, promoting promot-ing and planning conventions for the Park City area and would work politically on the State level. The above are simply broad suggested areas and are useful as a beginning in exploring the relationship of the two groups. Following the discussion the Board passed a motion stating: "The Chamber of Commerce fully supports the proposed Visitors Visi-tors and Convention Bureau, recognizing re-cognizing that the functions of both are essential to the rapidly growing tourist and resident population. pop-ulation. The Chamber of Commerce Com-merce and Convention Bureau will maintain separate fund raising rais-ing drives but each supporting the other and defining the critical need for both functions in the town." Highway Signage After a lot of work on the part of the Chamber and other interested parties in Park City, the County and State have given their approval ap-proval for the erection of special Park City information signs to be located near the Park City turnoff on 1-80 in both directions.
