Show County Unemployment Dips During August Summit County's seasonally-adjusted seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate declined de-clined last month from 7.0 percent per-cent in July, to 6.7 percent in August. According to the most recent Job Service figures, the August rate was also a slight improvement improve-ment on last year's rate of 6.8 percent for the same period. Statistics also indicate that total number of nonagricultural jobs in the county continues to increase: from 2,820 a year ago to 2,970 in 1978. The Summit County civilian labor force is now estimated at 4,890; a 5.8 percent increase over last year. By contrast, Salt Lake County's unemployment rate was 4.5 percent per-cent in August, with the statewide state-wide average at 5.0 percent. To the east, neighboring Wasatch Was-atch County has the highest unemployment un-employment rate in the state for the third consecutive month, at 14.0 percent. Hard-hit by the closure of the Ontario mine, the Wasatch County Coun-ty economy has yet to replace the jobs for many of the miners that lived in the Heber City area. |
