Park West Announces New Ski School Leader Park West's ski school this year will be staffed by 85 instructors who, according accord-ing to Peets, are more professional pro-fessional and experienced than ever before. 'It should be an interesting interest-ing year," comments Mr. Peets. 'The school should be a lot more together and much more qualified. The "in-dependant "in-dependant leg action" seq -uence is something we have been working on for two years and feel that we have an excellent format which will enable us to give skiers a more professional lesson. Park West announced this week that Dave Peets will head the local resort's ski school this year. Mr. Peets will replace Sid Jensen who ran the program last year. Dave Peets began teaching teach-ing skiing nine years ago when he was 17 and has served serv-ed in the capacity of assistant as-sistant director of the Park West Ski School for the past two seasons. Bruce Campbell, who has been associated with Park West Ski School for six years and is a certified Intermoun-tain Intermoun-tain ski instructor, will assume as-sume the post of assistant director. Also, internationally recognized rec-ognized freestyle skier, Bob Theobald, will remain on the Park West staff as director of Freestyle skiing and will continue to conduct his "Get Hot" school. Park West's Nordic program pro-gram will be headed by Jim Miller and Steve Erickson, both of whom are certified cross-country instructors. This year ParkWestplans to embark upon an entirely new approach to ski instruction instruc-tion utilizing the "independ-ant "independ-ant leg action" method opposed op-posed to the "simultaneous leg rotation" technique which was used in previous years. According to Peets the "in-dependant "in-dependant leg action" method meth-od mainly involves teaching skiers to balance and functionally func-tionally ski on one ski opposed op-posed to the 'simultaneous leg rotation" technique which stresses two ski balance and weight placement. "Skis today to-day are made to function in-dependantly," in-dependantly," says Dave Peets," It only seems natural to teach people to ski by a method which will complement comple-ment the performance of today's to-day's skis." |
