Show Candidate Uriarte Explains Position by Leon Uriarte I am a candidate for Mayor May-or of Park City. I've been a life-long resident of Park City, and employed by the Park City School District for the past 25 years. My opinion on problems of our city government are outlined in the following statements. Master Plan Ordinance. The updating of the Master Plan Ordinance of Park City is a must. The City is in need of controlling more closely the density of our City and also in keepingwith the character and image of our mining town. Water is going to be the most deciding factor in the growth of our community. In the past two years the City has come a long way in acquiring what little water rights we have and developing develop-ing them. Park City must have a good water plan to assure a good continued growth. I propose a plan whereby water could be allocated throughout the whole city, not where developers de-velopers can use all the developed de-veloped water. In developing water, I feel the bigger developers de-velopers should get involved. In this way, the City would not have bond elections for these improvements. Roads, this is one of the biggest complaints the City officials have. I feel much improvement has been made this past summer. To replace Park City streets in a permanent way, the main water and sewer lines which are in very poor condition, need replacing, To do this, the City has applied for a $600,000 loan from the F.H.A. at 5 per cent interest, payable over a period per-iod of 30 years to make the needed improvements to our water system. These worn out lines will have to be replaced re-placed as soon as possible. I propose a plan that when these inprovements are completed, asphalt street, curbs, gutters and drainage drain-age system for our streets be initiated. I feel these should not be torn up when new development occurs on that street. Transportation is a needed need-ed service in Park City. A service needed by our citizens cit-izens as well as people visiting visit-ing our community duringthe ski season. The proposal made to the city on a nonfare transportation transport-ation which received 100 per cent support of city officials, is the first step. The city getting involved in the transportation service ser-vice is surely to encounter problems. Hopefully they can be resolved. Dogs. I've been asked many times about the dogs running loose in Park City. We should strongly enforce our leash law ordinance, and put dog control directly under the Police Chief, who should be supported by all offices of law. If I'm elected to the office of mayor, I'll respect the rights of every citizen to (Continued page six ) committee (Finance, Water and Water Rights and their Development, and City Roads and Alleys.) I feel that three members should be involved in the major problems of the City and work more closely with the City Manager. With more council members involved, in-volved, there would be less indecision. Park City is a mining town. The mining industry is still in operation and expanded. ex-panded. Wearetryingtokeep this image. Park City is also a resort town for skiing, etc. We should consider both of these industies in our planning. plan-ning. I'm a concerned citizen and candidate for mayor. I am honest and fair, and very conscientious about doing a good job. Candidates View ( Continued from page two ) critize our city government, and I'll listen to their views on our problems. In response to the article I read in our local newspaper news-paper regarding the proposed propos-ed ski lift on Main Street, I feel it has its advantages as well as its disadvantages. If the problems could be worked out, it could be good for Park City and the businesses busi-nesses on Main Street. Annexation: An annexation proposed for another 325 acres has been submitted to our City north of the Holiday Ranch area. A strong annexation ordinance ordin-ance should be adopted, pro viding that developers have their own water, develop their rights and turn them over to the City. The city has many unsolved unsolv-ed problems, so I feel it is not in the City's interest to increase our problems by annexing more land at this time. Recreation: I'm a staunch supporter of a quality recreation rec-reation program. We have made tremendous progress along these lines in the past two years, but unfortunately the program is currently run on grants, if they dried up, so would our program. We need a more stable recreation program. If elected to this office, I would propose that more Council members be involved involv-ed in major committees. Three Council members should be appointed to each |
