J 1 c if I Ii J 1 J J 4 n f J c 00 49 l' l J I ToO 4 e Tj A J i t fr 4 I cu C r p c 1 I Bridging Gap To Antelope Island Island l r This is the spot in the road Great Salt Lake to the northern tip of Antelope a Island where t i a 70 foot bridge will be placed It is being built much higher than th the present road and the pilings have been set to a depth of 85 feet into the lake bottom The bridge will allow boats and swimmers to pass through from the fresh water side of of the lake to the salty side and vice versa This has been made possible by the construction of the road to the island All the water coming into the lake from the cast is fresh freshwater freshwater freshwater water and is now confined to the e east st side of Antelope Island Last year the water on that side tested approximately 28 percent salt This year since the road has been built it tests 6 G percent salt Millions of fresh water birds arc are now attracted to this area while on the other side of the road where the water is still many times saltier than in the Pacific Ocean the Seagulls are prevalent The State Parks and Recreation Dept is spending some I out on the island and on the road leading to it itin in an effort to open it as a State Park by the weekend oj or of October 5 or the weekend just prior to that According to Harold J. J Tippetts director of the Great Salt Lake Authority for the State Parks Dept roads will be roughed in fn sheltered picnic tables will be installed along the beautiful t I Iwhite white sandy beach at Bridger Bay and comfort stations willbe wit will withe be he installed prior to to the opening of the state park to the public within the next few weeks |
