That's hen;she took up skiing. f Pit . began traveling to Mammduthvj where she met , her . second husband, Bob. 1 They were; married in 1970, and Pat began ' substitute teaching in Mammoth and started writing .nonfiction feature articles for National magazines. The list of her accomplishments goes on in a recurrent two year cycle. In 1972, she developed an educational program for the Nevada Lung Association. In 1974, she earned her graduate gradu-ate degree in education, writing her master's thesis on a drug education program which she developed. Six months, after receiving her degree. Pat did what she feels everyone should do who has spent much time in the insular atmosphere of education; educa-tion; ; she toot , a service-: service-: oriented job as a Kelly Girl , The . change was quite educational in itself; she ; says. After all this work, it was "i time for more . changed Pat -and Bob began traveling in their motor home, looking for " ' "Happy Valley", as she puts it. They landed in Park City,2 and our town has been " benefiting from Pat's energy ever since. She has been a Public Information officer for :the US Ski Team, a teacher- at Marsac Elementary, and a v ; 1 " familiar face' and: voice in : " many of our community" v - theatre projects. The organization, is very supportive of its members and provides opportunities for women to gain advanced degrees and study timely topics through monthly discussion dis-cussion groups: On the 3rd Thursday in every month, ; the AAUW meets in the home, of a Park City member, to discuss their current topics: families in change and our renewable resources., resour-ces., : My wource of information on the AAUW was one of the initiators of the Park City chapter, Pat Whitfield. In . addition to her widespread . community interests and activities Pat is also a wife and mother; I met with her in - ... her home and, learned -something of her: own per-1 sonat story. Pat was born on the East '. (Coast and educated in a Catholic girl's school for most of her early, life. Her family moved to Los Angel es. where Pat attended the Immaculate Heart College, a school she describes as being very avant garde and schol-lastically schol-lastically demanding. She ' felt the need to experience a -: touch of "the real world"; though and decided to finish , her schooling at UCLA. She - received her bachelor's de- - gree in Speech Communica- - tion and was married one . month later. Her experience v includes that cf biccrJns a-r, a-r, mother;- staying home and fulfilling the duties that such a role demands. The . time ; was the early 60s and Pat eventually felt the need to .' become involved in; the" growing movement towards social awareness. Her expertise in her job earned her the distinction of being the teacher to- deal with the "problemv kids; she found this to work to be very, rewarding.
